A Day in The Life
Located in the Medtronic office in the Seaport District in Boston, MA ; as the Principal Embedded Software Engineer you will be a lead contributor to the embedded software development efforts in the Software Center of Excellence of the Surgical Robotics Organization, working in a fast-paced environment with a group of embedded software engineers and collaborating with cross functional teams to complete requirements definition, design, code implementation, unit test, and system verification and validation. You will also participate in scrum activities and might act as scrum master or product owner based on project needs. You will also help the team evaluate and create new or improve existing processes.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience
Nice to Have
• Proficient in C++ and Python
• Experience in hands-on development and troubleshooting embedded
• Deep understanding of Linux, QNX or other OS
• Experience in software architecture design
• Experience leading an engineering team
• Experience developing software for robotic systems
• Experience with medical devices
• Experience in Agile/Scrum/SAFe software development practices
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Designs, develops, tests, debugs and implements operating systems components, software tools and utilities.
- Determines systems software design requirements.
- Ensures that system improvements are successfully implemented and monitored to increase efficiency.
- Generates systems software engineering policies, standards and procedures.
- May work across a variety of software lifecycle activities as determined by program needs.
TECHNICAL SPECIALIST CAREER STREAM: An individual contributor with responsibility in our technical functions to advance existing technology or introduce new technology and therapies. Formulates, delivers and/or manages projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results. May act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of other lower level professionals. The majority of time is spent delivering R&D, systems or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies – from design to implementation - while adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills.

Required Knowledge and Experience: Requires mastery of a specialty area and full knowledge of industry practices, typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
May have broad knowledge of project management.
Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)( 4)(iii)(A) and minimum 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
