Job Description
RESPEC seeks a full-time Technical Editor for our Rapid City, SD, or Anchorage, Fairbanks, or Juneau, AK, locations.
The Technical Editor will join a team that supports a growth-oriented company with more than 600 employee-owners by strengthening and polishing a multitude of documents. The team collaborates with authors to produce high-quality materials such as reports, manuals, and letters for clients; proposals and employee résumés for business development; and newsletters, style standards, and procedures for internal purposes. This role requires a passion for nitty-gritty details, clarity, and consistency. The Technical Editor must be committed to internal client service, remain poised under the pressure of deadlines, and have a positive flexible attitude.
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday. The employee must be flexible according to workload and deadlines.
Technical editing and proofreading for proper grammar, sentence structure, spelling, and punctuation are fundamental to the position. An eye for detail to consistently apply corporate standards is required.
The team member must thrive in a fast-paced environment that values creativity, collaboration, and a strong work ethic. The ability to prioritize projects, multitask, and adhere to deadlines while maintaining a high level of professionalism is essential.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, technical writing, writing/composition, English education, communications, or related topic and 5+ years of experience in a documentation environment.
- Experience in the architectural engineering and construction industry is preferred.
- High proficiency in punctuation, spelling, grammatical usage, and proofreading; thorough understanding of written sentences and paragraph structures.
- In-depth knowledge of MS Word, including formatting, creating table of contents, and using advanced Word features (i.e., creating styles and templates, using headers and footers, and using the track changes function).
- Experience with Adobe Acrobat and the MS Office Suite.
- Ability to prioritize projects, multitask, and adhere to deadlines.
- Skilled at planning and laying out a variety of complex or technical material and preparing a well-arranged final copy within production deadlines.
- Ability to work independently or under only general direction.
- Keen awareness of document management with the ability to consistently file documents for easy retrieval.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees in multiple offices and among team members.
- Ability to lead team initiatives and serve as a resource for junior team members.

Compensation: Salary depends on experience and expertise. Compensation includes a comprehensive fringe-benefits package. RESPEC is a 100% employee-owned company and employees are eligible for participation in the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) after a qualifying period.
