Job Description

Position Summary

The Accounting Specialist assists the Accounting Managers with accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash deposits, daily income journal, and general ledger accounting for the hotel(s). This role involves preparing balance sheets, income statements, and other financial documents, while also conducting audits and reconciliations. This position reports to the Accounting Manager.

Essential Job Functions/Key Job Responsibilities

  • File all incoming paperwork in a consistent and timely manner
  • Ensure that office supplies are appropriately stocked at all times
  • Provide account information and billing details to Snowmass Mountain Club members
  • Maintain digital records of event contracts and Snowmass Mountain Club membership accounts
  • Assist with group billing tasks as assigned
  • Assist with end-of-month tasks as assigned
  • Post and file invoices, and assist the Corporate Accounts Payable Manager with check run tasks as assigned
  • Appeal and rebut incoming credit card chargebacks
  • Assist in preparation of daily income journal from point-of-sale system 
  • Answer guest and vendor calls and assist with resolution of problem
  • Assist with month end closing process including inventory counts, journal preparation and entry into accounting system
  • Assist with reconciliation of general ledger accounts
  • Handle special requests from hotel accounting team as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, accounting or business focus preferred
  • 1 year experience in accounting field preferred
  • Previous experience as a hotel front desk agent, restaurant server or bartender, or retail cashier will be considered

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Knowledge of hotel property management software, point of sale systems, electronic time clock systems
  • Proficient knowledge of software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software including advanced skills in Excel
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting requirements
  • Knowledge of General Ledger functions, reconciliation processes, and month-end/year-end closing procedures
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills to work with cross-functional teams like finance and operational teams
  • Ability to Influence the business via written communication, specifically email
  • Ability to reconcile and resolves differences on various bank account and general ledger accounts
  • Ability to focus on accuracy and precision in managing financial records and transactions
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities during reporting periods
  • Ability to ensure accurate reporting and compliance on general ledger accounts
  • Ability to adjust to changing accounting standards and organizational needs
  • Ability to evaluate the impact of financial decisions and recommend improvements to accounting processes
  • Ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion and professionalism
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
     

Additional Information

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand, type and sit at desk/computer for most of the work shift executing repetitive movements 
  • No adverse or hazardous conditions
  • Not required, but preferred to be able to occasionally lift, push or pull 25 lbs. individually or with assistance (weight limits can vary according to position, but no more than 50 lbs.)
