About Remo

Remo is building the new standard of dementia care by fundamentally changing the care journey for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers (the Dyad). As a virtual dementia care provider, our expert clinical team designs personalized, comprehensive care to serve people with dementia and caregiver needs (instead of a one-size-fits-all approach). We empower family caregivers by connecting them with a vibrant community of other caregivers, expert content, and tools to manage the entire dementia journey – from anywhere, at any time. Our mission is simple – to provide accessible, comprehensive, quality dementia care for every person who needs it.

About The Role

As a Principal Software Engineer at Remo, you'll be the technical leader of a team focused on enhancing the provider experience within our innovative dementia care platform. You'll design and build the tools that empower healthcare professionals to deliver personalized, effective care to our patients and their caregivers. Your work will directly contribute to our mission of transforming dementia care and improving the lives of those affected by this complex condition.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • A typical day will include writing code, working with autonomy to make critical technology choices, planning for and leading major complex projects, and reviewing your peers’ code. You’ll regularly provide technical mentorship to fellow engineers and will often coordinate the work of your team to ensure the successful delivery of projects you are leading.

  • Own deliverables and pursue them with a sense of urgency while identifying roadblocks, mitigating risks, and suggesting course corrections.

  • Lead technical design by driving technical discussions, setting architectural principles, and guiding the team on best practices and standards.

  • Build systems by designing, developing, and maintaining highly scalable, reliable solutions that support our growing user base and evolving healthcare needs.

  • Solve complex healthcare problems by engineering resilient and performant solutions to address unique challenges in healthcare technology, especially as it pertains to our core mission of improving dementia care.

  • Deliver high-quality features that utilize our core tech stack (React, TypeScript, Next.js, GraphQL, PostgreSQL) to create impactful features that directly improve the provider experience and their ability to deliver the best care possible.

  • Integrate healthcare standards and implement technologies such as FHIR, HL7, and DICOM to ensure seamless integration with existing healthcare systems.

  • Implement DICOM and PACS functionalities, including image processing, communication protocols, and data storage, according to industry standards and best practices.

  • Implement X12 and ADT functionalities, including claims processing, billing, encounters, revenue cycle management, and admission, discharge, transfer feeds.

  • Prioritize security and implement industry-standard security practices to safeguard sensitive patient data.

  • Design and implement automated tests (end-to-end, performance, load, security) to maintain the highest quality standards.

  • Collaborate with the engineering leadership team to define architectural principles, frameworks, and standards to ensure consistency across the organization.

You May Be a Good Fit If You

  • Have 10+ years of software engineering experience, with a proven track record of designing and building large-scale systems in healthcare.

  • Are experienced in leading complex features driving the technical architecture and requirements.

  • Have the ability to lead technical teams, mentor engineers, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Are experienced in implementing mechanisms to drive high velocity, highly functioning engineering teams.

  • Are experienced in leading technical design discussions and providing guidance on best practices, coding standards, and architecture principles.

  • Are experienced building full-stack user facing features for web applications while prioritizing performance optimization and security.

  • Are proficient and have strong knowledge of FHIR, HL7, X12, ADT, PACS, DICOM, and EHR / EMR systems.

  • Are proficient with our architecture (Docker, Node.js/TypeScript, GraphQL) and cloud environments (GCP).

  • Are experienced in designing and implementing GraphQL APIs while accounting for security and performance.

  • Are experienced PACS, electronic medical records (EMR) or patient management systems (PMs), as well as other clinical systems.

  • Have an in-depth knowledge of PostgreSQL, relational databases in general, as well as messaging systems.

  • Have knowledge of compliance and health data privacy standards (SOC 2, HIPAA, HITRUST) is a plus.
