Job Description

Noble Thermodynamics is seeking a Senior Piping Engineer to lead the design, engineering, and implementation of high-performance piping systems central to the deployment of the Argon Power Cycle™—our groundbreaking, zero-emissions power generation technology.

In this role, you will take full ownership of piping systems across different and concurrent projects, from early conceptual design through construction, commissioning, and operations support. You will develop efficient piping systems that reduce cost and maintenance intervals, increase reliability, and enable system packability all the while maintaining system accessibility, serviceability, and safety. You will provide technical oversight ensuring successful piping system implementation during construction and operation of the plants.

Your contributions to the piping system design will directly impact the scalability, safety, and efficiency of the world’s cleanest and most efficient power plant. Your successful execution in this role will radically accelerate the Argon Power Cycle™ deployment and expand affordable access to clean and reliable power, delivering measurable, large-scale reductions in global air-pollutants and carbon emissions.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will lead piping engineering activities across several fast-paced, multidisciplinary engineering projects:

  1. Own the end-to-end design and engineering of piping systems: layout, stress analysis, material selection, and routing for high-temperature and high-pressure and cryogenic systems.
  2. Generate Mechanical/Piping Engineering Packages including  deliverables such as P&IDs, plant layouts, isometrics, GADs, material specifications, MTOs, and 3D models in coordination with internal and external teams.
  3. Conduct stress analysis (static and dynamic) using industry-standard tools (e.g., CAESAR II) and validate designs per ASME B31.3/B31.1/B31.12 and other relevant codes.
  4. Collaborate with process, instrumentation, structural, and electrical engineers to ensure seamless integration of piping systems within the plant design
  5. Participate in HAZOPs and constructability reviews; support safety and operability assessments (e.g., PSSR) as required
  6. Review vendor deliverables, evaluate supplier technical proposals, and oversee fabrication and installation QA/QC activities, ensuring that all projects meet quality standards and follow approved designs and execution plans
  7. Lead and maintain documentation, including technical specifications, procedures, redlines, and as-built drawings.
  8. Drive the development and implementation of design standards, workflows, and quality control practices across the piping discipline.
  9. Prepare external-facing technical reports, presentation materials, permitting documents, patent drafts and other deliverables
  10. Support field activities during construction and commissioning; troubleshoot design issues and resolve site queries in real time.

To succeed in this role, you will need the following set of qualifications and demonstrated technical expertise:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a similar engineering field from an accredited institution
  2. 10+ years of piping system design experience, including experience across full project lifecycle, from FEED to commissioning, leading the piping design of industrial plants in any of the following industries: Powergen, Oil & Gas, Chemical, or EPCM
  3. Proficiency in 3D modeling and piping design tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Navisworks, or similar), and pipe stress analysis software (e.g., CAESAR II, AutoPIPE or similar)
  4. Working knowledge of governing industry codes and standards applicable to plant design and piping systems (i.e., ASME B31.1/B31.3/B31.12/BPVC, ASTM, API, NACE/AMPP, CGA, PIP) and other mandatory technical specifications
  5. Experience in developing specifications for process and utility piping, piping insulation, piping hangers and supports, and piping fabrication
  6. Extensive experience preparing high-quality piping engineering deliverables such as isometrics, GADs, piping layouts, etc,  following engineering and industry-specific best practices and standards

This role demands the following core competencies:

  1. Fundamental knowledge of gas dynamics, structural dynamics, and material science.
  2. Excellent and effective verbal and written communication, with the ability to present complex ideas in a compelling manner to the relevant audience.
  3. Proactiveness in presenting and advocating for new ideas and initiatives, skilled at persuading a diverse set of stakeholders vertically and across, driving decision-making.
  4. Organization; skilled at planning and coordinating within cross-disciplinary teams to improve collective outcomes
  5. Resiliency under pressure, maintaining clarity, decisiveness, and following-through when facing tight deadlines or high-stakes challenges
  6. Resourceful and avid learner, explorer of new and adjacent knowledge that materialize into team value and individual growth.

An exceptional candidate would also bring the following skills:

  1. Experience with high-temperature, high pressure, and cryogenic piping systems
  2. Experience with rotary and reciprocating equipment

Employment conditions

  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be willing and able to travel to project sites as needed
  • Must be willing and able to conduct field work including lifting heavy objects up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, and navigating active construction or industrial sites
  • Must be willing and able to work longer hours and weekends when needed to support key project milestones and ensure successful project delivery
  • Salary range: $130,000 to $190,000
  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Retirement Plan (401k, IRA)
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
