Natcast (short for The National Center for the Advancement of Semiconductor Technology) is a new, purpose-built, non-profit entity created to operate the National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC) consortium, established by the CHIPS Act of the U.S. government.

In this role you will pioneer breakthrough semiconductor innovations, leading critical research initiatives that strengthen America's technological leadership at the nation's first CHIPS for America R&D Flagship Facility.

The Senior Research Scientist role at the CHIPS for America R&D Flagship Facility offers an extraordinary opportunity to shape the future of semiconductor technology. Leading advanced research initiatives at Albany NanoTech Complex, this position directly impacts the development of next-generation semiconductor capabilities while collaborating with world-class researchers and industry partners.
Responsibilities:
Conduct high-impact research on advanced semiconductor materials, device architectures, and manufacturing processes, which can include owning and running Si within the Albany NanoTech facility
Lead investigations into emerging semiconductor fabrication techniques, process integration, and materials engineering, which can include owning and running Si within the Albany NanoTech facility
Collaborate with industry partners, academic institutions, and government agencies to accelerate technological breakthroughs
Develop and publish research findings in scientific journals, patents, and industry conferences
Work closely with industry and consortium partners to ensure alignment with CHIPS for America national priorities
Represent Natcast in scientific forums
Required Skills and Experience:
PhD or Master's in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or related field
7+ years semiconductor R&D experience at advanced nodes
Strong expertise in lithography, etching, deposition, metrology, and process integration
Demonstrated success in developing novel semiconductor technologies
Experience with EDA methodologies and test structure design
Background in multidisciplinary research collaborations
Hands-on semiconductor fabrication experience including Si hardware execution
Preferred Skills & Experience:
SiView SM/MM MES experience
Public-private research partnership experience
Program management expertise
Semiconductor consortia background
Patent portfolio in semiconductor technologies
