Overview

The Library Public Service Specialist III coordinates, plans, administers, supervises and conducts systemwide programming, services and initiatives in a designated area. This position manages programming resources, engages with community organizations, educational institutions, neighborhood groups, and organizes the efforts of staff systemwide.

Essential Functions

1. Plans, organizes, assists, and implements systemwide services and programs in a designated area, including system-wide programs/services, classes, program materials; oversees program volunteers, tracks attendance/participation, coordinates marketing, and communicating with library staff and partners.

2. Coordinates and schedules programming, classes and services at multiple locations.

3. Creates and updates curriculum, program instructions and materials for staff and volunteer implementation.

4. Manages distribution of program supplies and resources, including identifying needs and preparing orders.

5. Conducts outreach and other community involvement to promote library services in designated areas and builds relationships with other organizations and city departments related to the designated area.

6. Serves as the lead on team projects in a designated area.

7. Identifies, develops, and presents staff/volunteer training in a designated area.

8. Assists with library public service duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrated expertise in the designated area.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to present information to co-workers, volunteers, and customers in a relatable manner.
  • Intermediate proficiency with technology, especially Microsoft Office and software relevant to the designated area.
  • Leadership skills, including excellent initiative, organizational and time management skills and ability to use good judgment.
  • Strong ability to organize information, materials, and tasks.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with and relate to customers of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to learn routine and specific tasks within a reasonable time.
  • Strong ability to organize information, materials, and tasks.
  • Spanish and other language skills and/or subject area expertise is highly desired.

Experience
Six (6) years of experience related to the designated area in customer service and public library.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Sciences, Computer Science, English, Business, Arts, History or related field.

Salary Range

 

$50,721.47 - $57,628.36
