CED strives to pay a competitive wage in the industry and regional market. The pay range for this position is $23.50-$28.75 hr. Our strong benefits offerings includes eligibility to participate in 1 of 3 different BCBS of IL medical plans, Dental (SunLife) Vision (EyeMed), Life and Disability Insurance, 401(k) with a generous 6% match on a 6% contribution, 11 Paid Holidays, 5 paid Sick Days (based on a full year of employment) and paid vacation.
Requirements
JOB SUMMARY:
The Accounts Payable Specialist is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the accounts payable function within a manufacturing environment. This role ensures timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices, company credit card transactions, and other disbursements while maintaining compliance with internal controls, company policies, and industry regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Process vendor invoices and Company credit card transactions for materials, supplies, and services, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
- Verify invoices against purchase orders (including two and three-way matching).
- Code invoices to the appropriate general ledger accounts and cost centers.
- Maintain AP files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in compliance with company policies and accepted accounting practices.
- Reconcile vendor statements and assist in resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Monitor open purchase orders and invoices to avoid disruptions in the supply chain and escalate delays to Controller
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals and audit preparation.
- Communicate effectively with vendors, internal departments (e.g., procurement, receiving, operations), and external stakeholders.
- Identify AP process improvement opportunities and communicate to department leadership.
- Support the implementation of process improvements and automation initiatives within the AP function.
- Ensure compliance with internal procure to pay controls and corporate policies.
- Support annual audits by providing requested documentation and account analyses.

EDUCATION:
- HS Diploma or equivalent; prefer Associates or College level Business or Accounting course work
EXPERIENCE:
- One to two years of general office work and experience; basic AP experience is desirable.
- Experience with automated financial systems software is desirable
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- High level of integrity and trustworthiness
- Lawful permanent resident of the United States (ITAR restrictions)
- Must be eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) for all employees of Chemring Energetic Devices
PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Lifting carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects weighing up to 25 pounds occasionally, and / or a negligible amount of weight frequently. Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Routine use of a computer and extended periods of sitting at a desk.
