Job Description
The AECOM East Region is seeking a strategic, results-driven Vice President for Government Relations, covering the New York Metro market and serving as a key connection for AECOM’s business lines to navigate relationships with state and local elected officials and agencies. This individual is to lead high-impact initiatives across all AECOM business lines, to include business growth, market development, public policy engagement and direct advocacy.
The ideal candidate brings both a sharp business acumen and a deep understanding of the regulatory and political landscape impacting infrastructure, design, sustainability, and construction in the New York regional market. The role will focus on matters related to transportation, water, emergency preparedness and disaster assistance, buildings and places, program management and advisory services. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of New York and New Jersey state and local budget, procurement, and contracting policies. The position requires extensive analytical work tracking government processes, developing political engagement strategies, and pre-positioning AECOM with key stakeholders and decision-makers.
The position includes roles in shaping the firm’s long-term strategy in the region, in close coordination with AECOM’s Corporate Government Relations team, in driving region-wide geopolitical relationships and business growth at the state and local level. This includes a supporting growth of the AECOM Political Action Committee.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate and execute business development and client capture strategies to win and deliver projects.
- Maintain and develop reputation as a trusted partner to state and local government agencies, along with clients.
- Identify upcoming business opportunities in the New York metro market
- Attend and participate in external meetings such as industry/trade associations, conferences and political events.
- Coordinate and collaborate with Corporate Government relations team in developing and driving a holistic geopolitical strategy for the New York Metro market.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field; political science, public policy, public administration, or business administration/management, or similar, plus 12+ years of combined work-related experience on in New York or New Jersey state government, local government, and/or state agencies. or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 4 years of leadership.
- As a condition of employment, this role will require attendance events outside of traditional business hours, including before and after work and on weekends.
