Job Description

About Abound

We’re on a mission to make affordable loans available to more people. Using the power of Open Banking, we have built state-of-the-art technology that allows us to look beyond traditional credit scores and offer fairer credit to people ignored by traditional lenders.

We have two parts of our business. On the consumer side, we have Abound. Abound has proven that our approach works at scale, with over £650 million lent to-date. While other lenders only look at your credit score, we use Open Banking to look at the full picture – what you earn, how you spend, and what’s left at the end.

On the B2B side, we have Render. Render is our award-winning software-as-a-service platform that allows Abound to make better, less risky lending decisions. And less risky decisions mean we can offer customers better rates than they can usually find elsewhere. We’re taking Render global so that more companies, from high-street banks to other fintechs, can offer affordable credit to their customers.

We’re a small but high-impact finance team of four, covering the full spectrum of finance responsibilities across the business. From core operations, management accounts, and treasury, to commercial finance, strategic planning, and business partnering, we’re involved in every corner of the company.

We work closely with teams across the business to provide insights, build scalable processes, and help shape key decisions that drive growth. Everyone on the team is hands-on and adaptable—we believe in rolling up our sleeves to get the job done, whether it’s a high-level analysis or a foundational operational task.

As the business scales, so does our scope—making this a great opportunity for someone who wants broad exposure, real responsibility, and the chance to grow with the company.

What you'll be doing:

  • Prepare, review, and deliver accurate monthly management accounts, ensuring insightful financial reporting and timely close processes.

  • Conduct in-depth variance analysis and trend identification to inform leadership decisions and support strategic growth.

  • Collaborate with key business units to interpret financial data and drive performance improvements across the organisation.

  • Support the budgeting and forecasting cycles, helping to align financial plans with business strategy.

  • Continuously improve financial reporting processes, adapting to the evolving needs of a growing company.

  • Contribute to the development of financial models and scenario analysis to support decision-making and risk management.

  • Ensure robust internal controls and maintain compliance with financial policies and procedures.

  • Take an active role in project-based work – from building new finance tools and models to developing and implementing improved reporting systems and processes as the business scales.

Who you are:

  • You’re a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with 2–5 years of post-qualified experience, ideally in a fast-paced or growth-focused business.

  • You have strong experience in management accounts preparation, financial reporting, and analysis.

  • You bring a sharp commercial mindset, with the ability to identify trends and connect the dots between data and strategy.

  • You’re comfortable with Excel and financial systems (e.g., NetSuite) and can quickly get to grips with new tools.

  • You’re a flexible and adaptive thinker – you thrive on change and are energized by solving new challenges in a dynamic environment.

  • You’re a confident communicator who can translate financial data into clear insights for non-financial stakeholders.

  • You enjoy being hands-on and proactive, and you're comfortable rolling up your sleeves—everyone in the team contributes to day-to-day operations, including junior-level tasks when needed

  • Experience in a scaling or startup environment is a plus – as is a passion for using finance as a strategic growth lever.
