To meet these objectives, we are seeking a Director, Project Management with experience leading project management teams in a fast-paced, agency-style environment.
The Director, Project Management is a senior leader responsible for delivering Unboxed Technology’s most complex, cross-functional initiatives, including projects across learning experience design, custom software, SaaS, and consulting. As the main point of accountability for client projects and retainers, the Director manages scope, budget, timeline, and resources to ensure high-quality execution and strong client relationships.
The Director also leads strategic resource planning across LXD and consulting teams, overseeing bandwidth, capacity, and contractor management to align talent with organizational priorities. As a people leader, the Director onboards, coaches, and develops project managers, builds team capabilities, and fosters a culture of excellence. A key member of the Delivery Leadership Team, the Director drives continuous improvement, operational rigor, and client-focused results.
Specific Responsibilities:
Project Management:
· Manage end-to-end client projects across Unboxed’s full range of products and services—including consulting, custom training design, and SaaS platforms—by leading cross-functional delivery teams, ensuring clear communication, and overseeing seamless development and delivery.
· Responsibilities include defining project scope, building timelines, tracking milestones, and maintaining budgets and schedules. Set and adjust client and stakeholder expectations, plan and lead client check-ins and reviews, gather feedback, and drive project progress.
· Maintain up-to-date documentation (budgets, status reports, change logs, project plans) and lead meetings to review this information with both internal teams and clients.
Resource Management:
· Lead resource planning by aligning team members to projects based on skills, experience, and timelines.
· Collaborate with internal, client, Business Development, and Sales teams to anticipate and address staffing needs, ensuring coverage for key deliverables and upcoming opportunities.
· Proactively monitor bandwidth, adjust assignments, resolve resource challenges, and engage contractors to fill short-term or specialized gaps as needed.
Retainer Management and Earned Revenue Reporting:
· Oversee client retainers by managing budgets, scopes, and fee applications, adapting plans as client needs evolve.
· Track work and revenue recognition, forecast spending, and update financial projections regularly. Ensure transparent client communication regarding fund usage and expectations.
· Align delivery plans and team efforts with client objectives and financial targets, while coaching project managers to accurately track and report earned revenue.
Key Skills:
· Strong business acumen and the ability to make data-based decisions.
· Comfortable managing budgets, capacity and other key metrics.
· Flexible, detail-oriented, and focused on finding solutions amongst shifting priorities.
· Familiar with both waterfall and agile project management methods, tools (JIRA and Kantata a plus), and workflows.
· Excellent communication skills and ability to drive stakeholder alignment and manage crucial conversations with poise.
NOTE: Preferential consideration given to qualified candidates who live within 150-200 mile radius of Richmond, VA.
· 7+ years project management experience managing complex, cross-functional, client-facing projects in a fast-paced, agency-style environment, including navigating difficult client conversations regarding budget, timeline, and scope.
· Strong track record of working across teams (delivery, sales, finance, ops) to get alignment and results.
· Experience managing budgets and P&Ls.
· People management and team leadership experience required. Experience in the life sciences/pharma industry a plus.
· Up to 20% travel required (more if located outside of Richmond, VA)
