Principal Engineer
Job Description
Start with the platform. Go where the impact is.
At Tracksuit, we’re building the future of brand tracking - a product that’s always-on, easy to use, and actually affordable. Behind the scenes, that means scaling everything: our systems, our team, and the way we work. We’re looking for a Principal Engineer to help us do just that.
This role kicks off by helping us scale our infrastructure and architecture to set Tracksuit up for continued growth. Our Principal Engineers are problem solvers, coaches, and catalysts - they go wherever they’re most useful, whether that’s spinning up a new team, leading an ambitious project, or helping us work smarter with AI.
How we think about Principals at Tracksuit
Principal Engineers should always be working on high leverage activities. That might mean kicking off a new product area, guiding a high-stakes project, or embedding with a team that’s stuck. You're not here to gate-keep or enforce architecture diagrams - you're here to get things unstuck, set direction, and leave things better than you found them.
If you like solving tricky problems, working across systems and teams, and being part of something that's growing fast - this might be your thing.
What makes this role different
It starts with platform. You’ll get stuck into things like our cloud infrastructure, how we think about system design, and how we build tooling for other engineers.
It evolves based on impact. Over time, you might lead major projects, consult across domains, or embed with a team that needs a boost.
You’ll act like a founder. We’re not looking for someone to just ship tickets - we’re after someone who thinks commercially, works across disciplines, and makes things happen.
You’ll raise the bar. This is a collaborative role - you’ll coach others, shape our ways of working, and help grow our engineering culture.
\n- Scaling our platform. Think: IaC, API gateways, observability, deployment tooling - the stuff that makes our systems run smoothly as we grow.
- Designing for the future. How do our applications, data, and teams evolve as we get bigger? You’ll help answer that.
- Making AI useful. We’re exploring how agents and automation can help our teams move faster and smarter - and we’d love your help.
- Sharing responsibility. Platform work isn’t a silo - we want all teams to care about reliability, performance, and good engineering.
- You’ve got deep experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS is our stack), IaC, and application/system architecture.
- You’re fluent in Typescript and at least one other modern language.
- You understand data processing and storage, ideally with some experience in data warehousing.
- You’ve either worked with AI tools/agents before, or you’re excited to dive in.
- You’re comfortable switching contexts, zooming in and out, and picking up new domains quickly.
- You’re collaborative, curious, and kind. You help people get better, not just code.
- 5+ years experience working in a similar role and be a true polyglot programmer, with a strong proficiency in Typescript and at least one other modern programming language.
- Experience with the following technologies is essential: Cloud platforms (e.g AWS, GCP or Azure), Infrastructure as code, Serverless architecture and tools such as Github, Linear, and Retool
- Product-minded: able to focus on business outcomes and engage in discovery, not just implementation. Is able to think commercially and strategically. You are not dogmatic on coding principals, and know when its the right time and wrong time to incur technical debt.
- Leading others: Able to communicate with internal team members and customers, shape a strategy and prioritise work.
- Be an expert programmer: You operate as a thought leader and expert in multiple programming languages, and can create best practise architectures that allow rapid iteration and value creation.
- Kind: This is such a collaborative role that we ultimately want a great, collaborative and supportive team player.
At just over 3 years old, we're incredibly grateful and excited to be working with over 600 epic brands across AU, NZ, USA, Canada and the UK.
