A Day in the Life of a Graphic Design Manager
You will work closely with our Environmental Graphic Design Practice Lead to organize and guide our growing, close-knit team of graphic designers, distributed throughout offices across the country. You will be a key part of matching the right designers to the right projects, balancing talents and workloads to help our team thrive, while leading the charge in brainstorming creative visual solutions for challenging communications that span platforms and subjects. You will lead a talented team that helps translate critical technical information about the built environment into graphically compelling plans, reports, and public engagement materials. While knowledge of graphic design is essential, some understanding of related disciplines such as illustration, rendering, and architectural diagramming are also important to help you create and guide effective project teams.
You will guide graphic designers to develop their talents, balance demands on their time, and leverage all the resources available to them, managing day-to-day resource tracking, workflow, and leading design critiques. The Graphic Design Manager will also be an individual contributor, using their skills in graphic design and art direction to guide major projects with complex deliverables such as planning documents, public engagement, and websites. Anticipate approximately two thirds of your time to be devoted to design, and the remainder will be dedicated to leading and managing the team.
