The Assistant Director of Student Engagement for Culture and Community is a key member in the Division of Student Life and Office of Student Engagement. This position reports directly to the Director of Student Engagement. The Assistant Director is responsible for the development of educational, cultural, and social programs designed to create a culture of belonging on the East Falls campus. This position advises the Intercultural Advisory Board, supports faith based and identity-based student organizations as well as coordination of student-centered community programming. The Assistant Director is responsible for the operations and management of the Ramily Market food pantry and student staff who support the market. The Assistant Director will support the management of New Student Orientation in collaboration with Office of Student Engagement staff

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Develop and implement educational, cultural, faith-based, and social programs designed to improve the quality of the student experience
  • Direct the Ramily Market including staff supervision, student outreach, campus partner relationships, staff training and market stocking
  • Manage budgets assigned to area
  • Advise the Intercultural Advisory Board and assist in planning the Intercultural Gala and Graduation
  • Directly advise and support faith and identity-based organizations
  • Manage the Interfaith Prayer and Meditation Space and faith-based programming
  • Support the management of New Student Orientation in collaboration with Office of Student Engagement staff
  • Serve as a member of the department team responsible for leadership programs such as Emerging Leaders Program and the LEAD retreat
  • Assist in the planning and implementation on signature Office of Student Engagement initiatives
  • Participate in the development and reporting of departmental assessment
  • Option to teach a First Year Seminar, FYS-100

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with university staff, faculty, and students
  • Effective customer relations and communication skills
  • Experience supervising or advising students preferred
  • Strong background in the development of educational, cultural faith-based, and social programs designed to improve the quality of the student experience
  • Strong background in student group advising
  • Experience with food/housing insecurity programs preferred
  • Experience with retention initiatives preferred

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in Higher Education or related field preferred

AND

Experience:

  • 1-3 years direct experience in higher education preferred
