Description
Essential Purpose: To represent the hotel in negotiations with group clients/meeting planners. To research, identify, and target new and repeat group customers for the hotel and to ensure complete customer satisfaction for all contracted events.
Essential Duties:
- To manage all aspects of sales in a designated geographical market segment, while achieving specific individual and team goals.
- To use professional acumen and independent judgment in preparing, presenting, and negotiating group contract proposals, including pre-determining availability of rooms/ meeting space, special concessions (based on the overall group contribution), verifying group history, and securing deposits from contracted groups.
- To personally conduct site inspections with potential and current clients, including entertaining them at one of the hotel restaurants.
- To research, identify and target new markets and potential clients to promote new business and generate sales.
- To identify and respond to trends in the industry and local markets.
- To build and promote professional client and industry relationships on behalf of the hotel.
- To be knowledgeable regarding competitive properties, including rates and services.
- To travel on a regular basis to designated target clients/cities to solicit new and repeat business and to improve and increase market penetration.
- To identify and participate in industry show events to represent the hotel and to promote new business.
- To design and implement market segment territorial sales action plans, including setting personal and team goals, subject to the approval of the Director of Sales.
- To create and implement promotional campaigns to generate business.
- To maintain cordial social and business contact with representatives of past, repeat, and potential group customers and businesses.
- To understand and respond to all guest needs and requests in a timely and professional manner, and take personal responsibility for the complete satisfaction of all in-house groups.
- To participate in manager focus groups, , and hotel industry associations (MPI, HSMA), and to attend hotel functions, as directed.
- To document all sales interactions in a clear, concise manner.
- To follow specified procedures to properly complete daily, weekly, and monthly sales activity reports.
- To use good time management skills in prioritizing work and scheduling appointments.
- To promote and comply with all policies and procedures of Temecula Creek Inn.
- To immediately report all suspicious occurrences and hazardous conditions.
- To always maintain the cleanliness and safety of work areas.
- To always practice safe work habits, to avoid injury to self and others.
- To ensure safe work practices of all Sales & Service staff, including compliance with company and departmental safety rules and regulations and the proper use and handling of all relevant equipment.
- To attend all mandatory meetings, as directed.
- To perform other tasks, including cross-training, as directed.
Requirements
Knowledge + Education: Bachelor’s degree in Sales and Marketing or Hotel Management, or equivalent experience required. English fluency required. Must have three to five years experience in group sales in a hotel of comparable quality. Familiarity with industry terms required. Must be computer literate. Must have basic knowledge of accepted business writing formats and usage. Valid California driver’s license required. Proof of personal automobile insurance coverage required.
Skills: Detail oriented. Organized and efficient. Safety-minded. High quality standards for production and service. Must be computer literate and have working knowledge of Word and Delphi. Diplomatic and calm. Strong written and verbal communications skills. Courteous, friendly, and professional manner. Good team player. Customer service focus. Able to work productively with little supervision. Trustworthy and reliable.
Physical Demands: Sits at desk or in meetings approximately 75% of shift. Heavy use of phones, daily. Uses computer approximately 75% of shift. Must be able to travel six to eight weeks per year. Patience and tact required to accommodate customer needs, and resolve occasional difficult situations. Must be flexible to work long, sometimes irregular hours to accommodate client schedules. Must be able to work well under pressure. Frequent use of stairs, daily.
