Basetwo is a fast-growing Toronto-based startup backed by top-tier VCs from Boston, Toronto, and the Bay Area. We work with some of the largest Fortune 500 chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturers and provide their engineers with a next generation AI co-pilot. Our platform provides these engineers with real-time recommendations on the next best action they can take in their plants to improve efficiency as well as reduce costs and cycle time.
The Role
As Basetwo scales rapidly across the US and Canada, we’re looking for an experienced and strategic Head of People to build and lead our HR, policy, and hiring functions. This is a senior leadership role responsible for cultivating a world-class employee experience while ensuring our operations, people practices, and security posture are compliant, scalable, and enterprise-ready.
You’ll partner closely with the executive team to shape a culture of high performance, inclusivity, and accountability — while also taking ownership of adjacent compliance and policy frameworks (including SOC 2) that support our work with highly regulated industries.
What You’ll Do
As Head of People, you will be responsible for:
- Designing and executing the People strategy across Canada and the US, including talent acquisition, total rewards, employee engagement, performance management, and learning & development
- Overseeing compliance with labor laws, employment standards, InfoSec and HR best practices across multiple jurisdictions
- Leading all people operations—including onboarding/offboarding, payroll, HRIS management, benefits, and compensation
- Coaching and advising managers and executives on team structure, talent planning, and leadership development
- Owning end-to-end recruitment processes for key roles while building consistent, inclusive hiring practices
- Using people data and analytics to inform decision-making and continuously improve employee satisfaction and retention
What You’ll Need
To be successful in this role, you’ll have:
- 5+ years of experience in senior People/HR roles, ideally with exposure to compliance-heavy environments (e.g. healthtech, AI, manufacturing, or SaaS)
- Pathway to CHRP certification is required - achieved certification is a bonus
- Strong knowledge of HR policy and employment law across both the US and Canada
- Familiarity with InfoSec standards (e.g. SOC2, ISO 27001), internal controls, and risk management processes. Finance experience is a bonus.
- Proven success building People operations from the ground up in a fast-paced, high-growth startups
- Excellent cross-functional communication and collaboration skills
- A pragmatic, systems-thinking mindset with strong organizational and project management capabilities
- Experience with HRIS, ATS, and compliance tools (e.g. Rippling, Thoropass, Vanta, etc.)
