We are seeking a visionary, user-obsessed, and business impact-oriented Head of Product – Mobile Apps to lead the strategy, development, and growth of our mobile experiences across iOS and Android. In this role, you will shape the future of our mobile experience, managing the entire product lifecycle—from defining mobile product vision to overseeing the delivery of features that delight users and drive business impact. The Head of Product – Mobile Apps will be directly accountable for the success of the mobile app portfolio – modernizing our existing local news mobile ecosystem and imagining and delivering ‘what’s next’ to truly differentiate TEGNA in our next chapter. This is a high-impact leadership role that sits at the intersection of business, technology, content, and audience.
Who you are
You’re a mobile-first product leader with a deep understanding of what makes an app loved, sticky, and habit-forming. You balance user empathy with sharp business instincts—you’re equally comfortable in user interviews and growth meetings. You thrive at the intersection of UX, performance, and platform innovation, and know how to use mobile capabilities (push, native gestures, personalization, etc.) to enhance the experience. You’ve scaled mobile products in high-growth environments and are obsessed with quality, from design polish to app speed and crash rates. You're a collaborative and inspiring leader who empowers product teams and brings clarity to complex roadmaps. You're a metrics-driven thinker who lives by engagement, retention, app store ratings, and feature usage KPIs—but you also believe numbers only matter if they tell a user-centered story.
You are passionate about bringing innovative solutions to bear and obsesses the future of mobile, utility, second-screen and on-the-go experiences. You have a passion for local communities – and are deeply motivated to serve our consumers with elegant, intuitive, and helpful mobile apps.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and own the mobile product vision, strategy, and roadmaps aligned with company goals and user needs.
- Lead the end-to-end mobile product lifecycle across iOS and Android—from concept to launch to iteration.
- Build and manage a high-performing team of mobile product managers.
- Partner with UX/design, engineering, data, and marketing to deliver seamless, high-quality mobile experiences.
- Prioritize features that improve user retention, engagement, and satisfaction while supporting growth and monetization goals.
- Drive innovation in mobile UX, leveraging native capabilities, performance optimization, and personalization.
- Champion user research, usability testing, and in-app analytics to inform decisions.
- Ensure mobile product KPIs are defined, tracked, and improved continuously (e.g., DAU/MAU, retention, NPS, app store ratings, crash-free sessions).
Qualifications
- 10+ years of product management experience, including 3+ years focused specifically on mobile apps.
- Proven track record of launching and scaling successful consumer or B2B mobile apps.
- Strong grasp of mobile platforms, technologies, and development frameworks
- Experience with mobile analytics tools and A/B testing.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong product intuition backed by data-driven decision-making.
