Job Overview Summary 

 The Assistant Controller will play a vital leadership role within the Accounting team, overseeing core accounting functions, supporting M&A integration, and partnering across departments to maintain strong controls and operational efficiency. You’ll manage a small team, work on complex projects, and directly contribute to building scalable processes for a growing organization. 

What you’ll be doing (and doing well!):

  • Oversee monthly balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely resolution of discrepancies.
  • Manage a team of 2 accountants, providing direction, mentorship, and performance feedback.
  • Define, document, and improve accounting policies, controls, procedures, and workflows to drive efficiency, accuracy, and scalability in alignment with best practices of high-growth midsize companies and in close coordination with the 3rd party auditor.
  • Lead sales and use tax compliance across all jurisdictions using Avalara, including nexus monitoring, rate accuracy, and exemption certificate management.
  • Drive monthly revenue recognition under ASC 606, including detailed percentage-of-completion (POC) calculations for project-based contracts. Collaborate with project managers to validate status, budgets, and milestones for accurate cost-to-cost revenue recognition.
  • Support lease accounting under ASC 842, especially during M&A activity by reviewing lease agreements and converting data to ensure compliance and accurate general ledger setup.
  • Ensure consistent application of internal controls and adherence to corporate accounting policies.
  • Partner with the Corporate Controller to support annual financial statement audits, including preparing PBC schedules, responding to auditor inquiries, and assisting in resolution of any audit findings.

M&A Integration Responsibilities:

  • Support post-acquisition integration efforts by ensuring accurate data transmission from acquired companies’ legacy systems into Sage Intacct.
  • Ensure ongoing regulatory compliance, including sales tax, business licenses, and reporting requirements, is maintained as entities are integrated into the corporate structure.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align accounting practices and streamline the onboarding of acquired businesses.

Responsibilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, especially ASC 606 and ASC 842.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct or similar ERP system highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Avalara or similar tax compliance platforms a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.

Pay Transparency Statement

The base salary range for this role is $112,100-$202,500. Note that salary may vary based on location, skills, and experience and may vary from the amounts listed above. This position may also be eligible for a variable bonus in addition to base salary as well as health coverage, paid holidays, and other benefits.
