About the Role:
We are seeking a Generative AI Engineer Subject Matter Expert with deep expertise in designing, building, and deploying advanced generative AI models, specifically leveraging Google's Gemini models and the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) ecosystem. This role is pivotal to developing our Generative AI Engineering with Gemini (Google DeepMind) certification course. You will be responsible for ensuring the technical accuracy, relevance, and practical applicability of the course content. This role requires hands-on experience with Google Cloud AI services (particularly Vertex AI and Gemini APIs), deep learning frameworks, MLOps practices within GCP, a strong understanding of responsible AI principles as advocated by Google, and ideally, experience in Learning and Development. For this certification, the SME will need to support curriculum development for both non-programmers (using Gemini and Google AI Studio for code generation/automation) and developers (using Gemini as a coding partner and integrating via API/SDK).
This is a 6-month freelance contract, offering up to 30 hours per week. We're targeting a start date in mid to late June 2025. Onboarding will be compensated at $250 for up to 10 hours. The ongoing hourly rate is negotiable.
As this is a freelance position, we're seeking individuals with a proven track record of successfully managing freelance engagements and multiple client relationships.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with a team of learning experience designers to help create and validate training materials.
- Review a skills task or job task analysis for accuracy and completeness, providing feedback on essential vs. nice-to-know tasks and suggesting improvements.
- Review a high-level program outline and provide feedback on the order and complexity of topics for the intended audience.
- Review a detailed program outline to ensure alignment with the high-level program outline, and confirm that content is presented in the correct order and format.
- Validate AI-generated content to ensure it conforms to learning objectives and is technically accurate.
- Support the creation of content-specific graphics, such as tables, flowcharts, and screen captures.
- Create any necessary assets to produce demonstrations that showcase specific procedures and skills.
- Create recordings of software demonstrations and related audio scripts.
- Coordinate with learning experience designers to develop the necessary assets, steps, and technical elements for hands-on projects, including exercises, labs, and projects.
- Be available during US business hours, Monday through Friday, for content reviews, questions, and occasional meetings.
- Work on Sweetrush systems for all work, including email, messaging platform, and cloud-based file storage systems.
- Log time weekly and invoice time monthly.

- Google Cloud Platform (GCP) AI Ecosystem: Vertex AI (including Gemini models, Generative AI Studio, Model Garden), Google Cloud AI Platform services, BigQuery, Google Cloud Storage.
- Gemini Specifics: In-depth understanding of various Gemini models (e.g., Gemini Pro, Gemini Ultra, Gemini Flash), their capabilities, APIs, and best practices for prompting and fine-tuning.
- Development & ML Frameworks: Python, TensorFlow, JAX, PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers.
- Cloud & Deployment: Docker, Kubernetes (Google Kubernetes Engine - GKE), Google Cloud Run, Google Cloud Functions.
- Productivity: Google Cloud Shell, Colaboratory (Colab), Visual Studio Code.
- Data & Pipelines: Google Cloud Dataflow, Vertex AI Pipelines, Pub/Sub.
- MLOps: Vertex AI MLOps features (e.g., Vertex AI Experiments, Vertex AI Model Registry, Vertex AI Pipelines, and monitoring), general MLOps tools compatible with GCP.
- Agentic & Multimodal Frameworks: LangChain (especially in conjunction with Gemini), and understanding of developing multimodal applications with Gemini.
Required Skills & Experience

Gemini and Google Cloud Expertise:
- Demonstrated, hands-on experience using Gemini and Google AI Studio for code generation and as an AI coding partner.
- Experience integrating Gemini API/SDKs (Python, Node.js) into simple application and deploying to cloud environments (e.g. Cloud Run, serverless).
- Experience with advanced ML frameworks (TensorFlow, JAX, PyTorch) and deep MLOps for internal validation or advanced elective modules.
- Familiarity with Google Workspace automation and integration.
Communication and Responsible AI:

- A strong understanding of adult learning principles is a plus.
- Essential experience in training, learning, and development, or teaching.
- Proven ability to create and deliver effective screencasts and video tutorials.
- Strong ability to articulate complex technical concepts in an accessible manner.
- Availability to work during the US time zones' business hours.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- Direct, hands-on experience with Generative AI engineering tools and services within the Google Cloud Ecosystem, with a specific focus on Gemini models, including model types, workflows, and building real-world applications with Gemini.
- Comprehensive knowledge of LLM architecture (especially Transformer models relevant to Gemini), advanced fine-tuning techniques (e.g., PEFT, LoRA, as applicable to models on GCP/Vertex AI), advanced prompt engineering for Gemini, and Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) strategies using Google Cloud technologies.
- Proficiency in Python and machine learning fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience with deep learning (CNNs, RNNs/LSTMs, transformers) and generative models, particularly those available or trainable on Google Cloud.
- Experience deploying and managing AI models on Google Cloud (Vertex AI, GKE).
- Familiarity with MLOps, CI/CD, version control (e.g., Git, Google Cloud Source Repositories), and monitoring tools within the Google Cloud ecosystem (e.g., Vertex AI MLOps capabilities, Google Cloud Monitoring).
- Knowledge of data preprocessing, augmentation, and synthetic data generation techniques.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills.
