SR. MANAGER SOFTWARE ENGINEERING (FALCON AND DRAGON)
As a Senior Manager of Software Engineering on the Falcon & Dragon Software Engineering team, you will manage a team responsible for control software and ground software for Falcon & Dragon programs for our vehicles and/or launch pads. You will engage with other software, hardware, and operations engineers on the Falcon program to discover the needs of the mission and design and drive the team to write reliable software that turns those goals into reality. You will be responsible for the complete lifecycle of the software you and your team create, from development to testing to operation.
Your responsibilities will include overseeing a team of software engineers to provide technical leadership and team development. This is a hands-on technical role where coding is expected in addition to managerial duties such as interviewing, hiring, and training your engineers. You and your team will be expected to find innovative ways to drive the program forward and remove roadblocks to program success. Your team must maintain close working relationships with peers and customers, and you will be expected to remove roadblocks for your team and hold your team accountable for results that directly benefit the program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead multiple teams of engineers focusing on the core vehicle system software, ground software, and software infrastructure
- Manage a team of software engineers at all levels with responsibility for performance evaluation and growth management, as well as technical results
- Provide strong technical leadership and mentorship across a variety of tech stacks with a focus on continuous improvement
- Maintain a culture of excellence; drive continuous improvement; ensure that the team follows the software development process and best practices
- Define and maintain a roadmap with achievable short-term and long-term goals that directly enable the wider software team and the program
- Eliminate roadblocks and empower your team to innovate and deliver on the goals set forth in the roadmap
- Maintain a culture of close collaboration with peers and customers within and outside the software team
- Own all aspects of software development, including design, implementation, testing, mission integration, and operations
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or science discipline
- 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering
- 5+ years of leadership experience in a technical role
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or science discipline
- Proven success at leading multiple teams of engineers across diverse problem sets
- Strong software design and development skills
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with changing needs and requirements
- Experience hiring and conducting performance reviews
- Ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority or structure
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed
- Must be able to travel to other SpaceX sites as needed
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range:
Sr. Manager, Software Engineering/Sr. Manager: $210,000.00 - $270,000.00/per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
