Southern is currently seeking a Business Development Associate to work closely with the M&A team to lead the sourcing of acquisition targets.  M&A is one of the core components of Southern’s growth strategy. The Company has completed thirty-one acquisitions in its history including sixteen over the last three years.

About this role:

  

The Business Development Associate will be focused on the sourcing/origination component of the M&A lifecycle. The Business Development Associate will spend the majority of their time developing and managing the M&A pipeline. The individual will be responsible for identifying potential acquisition targets and leading direct outreach efforts. This individual will work directly with business owners and will have significant exposure to Southern' s executive leadership team.


With a Company goal of 4-10+ deals per year, this individual will drive significant deal flow and have a meaningful impact on the company’s growth. This high-impact role has the opportunity to expand to support the full lifecycle of the M&A process, including diligence, financial analysis, investment memo preparation and transaction execution support.



In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Target Identification:  Research and identify potential acquisition targets in the residential home services industry, leveraging market insights, industry trends, and the company’s proprietary database.
  • Direct Outreach:  Lead proactive outreach efforts to acquisition targets through multiple channels, including email, phone, and networking events, to initiate and advance discussions.
  • In-Person Prospecting:  Travel as needed to meet with business owners and acquisition targets,      conducting site visits and building trust through face-to-face engagement.
    • We anticipate in-person travel to be 30 – 50% of the overall hours worked, with more in the initial months after hire.
  • Relationship Building:  Develop strong relationships with business owners, gathering information to support the evaluation of acquisition opportunities. 
  • Reporting: Track and report on pipeline progress, outreach activities, and prospect interactions using CRM tools. 



Required Qualifications:

  • Exceptional communication & interpersonal skills;
  • Adept at building relationships and conducting outreach; 
  • Comfort with cold outreach and persistence in engaging prospects across multiple channels; 
  • Ability to work independently & manage time effectively, particularly during independent travel;
  • Strong research and analytical skills to identify and evaluate acquisition targets; 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; 
  • General knowledge of financial statements and basic accounting principles



The physical requirements of this job include:

  •  Ability to travel 30-50% of the time. As noted above, travel may exceed 50% in the initial months of employment after onboarding.

Position Location 

  • The Business Development Associate must be located in Central Florida and can expect to travel a significant portion of the month. The individual will be expected to work from the company’s headquarters in Maitland, FL when not traveling. 


Education & Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree with a concentration in accounting, finance, marketing, or business, along with 1 – 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Preference for candidates with experience in business development or sales roles.

  

Compensation

  • Base Salary: $70,000
  • One-Time Spot Bonuses: $15,000 - $25,000 per closed acquisition sourced by the individual (variable based on acquisition size)
