Job Summary:   

The Sanitation Coordinator implements and monitors sanitation programs and activities to ensure the highest quality and food safety standards. 

How you will make contributions that matter...

  • Perform physical/visual inspections of process operations to identify areas that have the potential to create a microbiological contamination risk.  Develop detailed action plans for high-risk areas to include micro-organism growth mitigation matrices for applicable risk areas.
  • Partner with sanitation, maintenance and operations to understand activities in sterile and aseptic environments, identify and communicate risk and preventive action plans.
  • Monitor CIP and/ SIP for proper function. Utilize the CIP/SIP optimization programs available for verification and troubleshooting. 
  • Assist in implementation, enhancing, and maintaining Master Sanitation Schedules.
  • Assist in implementation, enhancing and maintaining Sanitary Preventive Maintenance Schedules.
  • Maintain established chemical inventory and order chemicals, following established procedures.
  • Support in review and maintenance of records of all sanitation and cleaning performed at the plant.
  • Assist with implementing all facets of FSMA and ensuring sustainable compliance efforts.
  • Help monitor HACCP as outlined in the IDFA product safety system and ensure that sanitation activities regarding HACCP are performed and documented consistently.
  • FSMA trainer ensuring team members are trained to SSOPs, verification, documentation and corrective actions.
  • In concert with the quality team, support the pest control program inspections and activities.
  • Maintain proper documentation of all sanitation related activities and chemical concentrations.
  • Perform minor maintenance and sanitation on all necessary plant and sanitary equipment. 
  • Ensure team members follow sanitation and sterilization procedures and follow pre-start up inspections.
  • Communicate and work interactively with other departments to resolve sanitation issues and ensure action plan items are completed. 
  • Update sanitation SSOP’s under the direction of the department manager.
  • Monitor compliance with GMP’s. 
  • Support the Environmental Monitoring Program by oversight and assisting in troubleshooting of problematic areas. 
  • Help in monitoring the drain cleaning program.
  • Communicate and work interactively with other departments to improve sanitation and housekeeping.
  • Attend departmental meetings as necessary.
  • Conduct monthly Sanitation Verifications on identified equipment and components throughout the facility. 
  • Aids in collecting environmental water samples.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Adhere to the Saputo code of ethics and actively apply the Saputo values.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-based area (ex: Microbiology, Food Science, Dairy Science) of study preferred, or a minimum of 3 years demonstrated experience.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Must be able to complete and maintain a PCQI certification.
  • Experience leading and following food quality and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to follow all Sanitation and Quality Policies and Procedures, and report and follow through on any deficiencies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computer-based applications. 
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills. 
  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Skill in organization and prioritization, and attention to detail. 
  • Strong team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines. 
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekend

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in manufacturing environment which includes but not limited to: noise, changing temperatures (hot, wet, cold, humid), standing/walking/bending/stooping/climbing stairs/ladders, maneuvering around manufacturing equipment consistently throughout the shift.
  • Working with chemicals, wearing personal protective equipment and following approved chemical handling procedures.
  • Good visual acuity, with the ability to see and differentiate colors.
  • Physical lifting up to 50-lbs frequently throughout the shift unassisted and greater than 50-lbs with assistance.
  • Shift flexibility.
  • Lifting floor to waist and above the shoulders required. 
  • This is a hands-on role for a 24/7 manufacturing facility. Our equipment operators are assigned to a team on a multi-shift, 24/7 operation to support manufacturing.  This can either be rotating, days, swing or night shift and weekends. Work days and shifts may change to help cover vacations/absences, during plant downtime or related events such as audits.
