DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the Director of Finance, the Accounting Specialist will be responsible for processing all payments from state programs and health insurance agencies. The Accounting Specialist will also be responsible for managing refunds and credits, grants and other revenues, as well as assisting with additional confidential agency financials. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Processes daily cash receipts
  • Reconciles all patient revenue payments received including cash, checks, credit cards and electronic funds transfer  
  • Processes grants and contribution payments
  • Records in accounting system grant invoices and revenues
  • Processes and records third party receivables and other contractors
  • Processes and records other income payments
  • Reconciles patient payments account with health record system
  • Reconciles patient refund between health record system and general ledger
  • Maintains and delivers copies of patient payments to Billing Department 
  • Analyzes current flow and provides suggestions for workflow improvement 
  • Prepares and reconciles all monthly revenue reports; submits to Director of Finance
  • Works in coordination with Billing Department with any claim payment and EOB related 
  • Ensures a productive work environment and achievement of goals through strategies in line with the department policies and goals
  • Consistently adheres to and/or exceeds SPLG’s communication guidelines and expectations with internal and external customers including co-workers, and other departments
  • Prepares schedules and supporting data for financial audits
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:


Knowledge of: basic and computerized accounting procedures, especially relating to accounts receivable. 

Ability to: handle confidential matters with a high level of discretion, process all aspects of accounts receivable with a high degree of accuracy; meet processing deadlines, use basic math accurately; prepare reports; learn policies and procedures; organize work efficiently, using sound independent judgment; think independently and analytically; use a variety of standard office and computer equipment; develop and maintain effective working relationships with Salud Para La Gente staff.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma, A.A preferred.
  • Three years of accounting experience preferably for a non-profit 
  • Bilingual Spanish/English 
  • Knowledge of Accounts Receivables cycle (experience preferred) 
  • Must be detail oriented with strong attention to detail 
  • Background check required 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Standing, walking, sitting, typing, reaching, bending, moving and/or lifting up to 50 pounds.
