Position Summary:

The Accounting Specialist will be committed to the mission, vision and services of Roots and able to engage funders and funding agencies accordingly. The Accounting Specialist will provide accounting support to major financial accounting areas, including the accounts payable, accounts receivables, general ledger accounting, bank reconciliations and data entry.  


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide timely and accurate payment processing by processing accounts payable transactions 
  • Input credit and debits to the accounting system in support of the payables work.
  • Assisting Accounting Coordinators, Manager, and CFO as needed. 
  • Input collections and processes invoices 
  • Develop and maintain reports and files on the Accounts Payable processing.
  • Input general ledger entries for account changes.
  • Participate in agency fiscal audits.
  • Develop and maintain reports and files on asset and liability account balances.
  • Ensure accurate balancing from a corporate perspective of teller input from our ten financial centers.
  • Develop and maintain regular reports via Roots’ accounting system.
  • Must be able to work on-site up to five days per week.
  • Participate in staff meetings, agency meetings and staff training.


Requirements

 Competencies:

  • B.S. Accounting/Finance or equivalent experience in related fields.
  • 1 - 2 years of experience in processing accounts payable and/or accounts receivables with non-profit organizations.
  • Knowledge of cost allocation/analysis processes.
  • QuickBooks and SAGE Intacct experience are highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP rules, policies and procedures that is reflective of the financial services industry.
  • Proven, solid Excel and Word skills and exposure to automated accounting systems.
  • Ability to plan effectively and prioritize tasks with competing deadlines, with minimal oversight.
  • Interest/proficiency in working on issues affecting urban underserved, impoverished and marginalized communities of color.
  • Must be able to work on-site up to full-time, as needed.
