Job Description

Job Description

As part of Renesas’s Performance Computing Power Business, you will contribute to the development of our next-generation ICs for low-voltage, high-current, power applications.  This highly experienced team is seeking an experienced DSP and Systems design engineer to expand the team’s capabilities.

We are seeking a Principal IC Design Engineer to specify, develop, and document the architecture and design of the digital regulation loop control sub-system for AI, Server, and emerging high performance computing product spaces.  This position supports our highest value loop intellectual property and requires deep understanding of control theory, mixed-signal DSP architecture and implementation, and the application of those concepts to real-world customer applications.

What you will do:

  • Develop high-level System Verilog models of digital control loop functionality
  • Implement synthesizable RTL to realize performance DSP hardware within process, voltage, and area constraints
  • Work with Applications and Systems Engineering team members to architect solutions
  • Test and Validate Digital Loop features in FPGA prototype systems designed to operate supporting real-time power regulation
  • Support training for DV, applications, and validation engineers on control loop theory of operation and implementation-specific behaviors
  • Mentor and train junior DSP and digital designers
  • Triage and debug customer systems with applications engineers to identify, root cause, and solve field-reported bugs or exceptions.
  • Work within the new product development process to scope work and schedule time needed to support IC tapeouts

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor or Master of Electrical Engineer.
  • More than 12 years of hands-on experience in integrated circuit (IC) engineering, specializing in the semiconductor industry.
  • Demonstrated track record of leading the development of commercially successful digital mixed-signal IC products
  • Flexibility is required.  The server market is very dynamic.  We specify products a year ahead of first CPU silicon.  OEM and ODM definitions and schedules change dramatically from business plan to first silicon and our priorities flow directly from those engagements.
    • You must stay engaged with the Product Definition team to understand and adapt to rapidly changing market and competitive pressure
    • You will also need to attempt to stay ahead of the market needs by anticipating functions and features for next generation architectures.
  • Strong communications skills and broad technical skills are essential.  The team that supports this effort is global and effective written and verbal communication is essential.
