Data Engineer
Job Description
Optiver is looking for a Data Engineer to join our Global Data Engineering team with a dedicated focus on supporting our Trading team. You’ll play a key role in building the data infrastructure that fuels both real-time trading and long-term research, working across the full data lifecycle – from raw ingestion to normalized APIs used in research and production systems.
As a leading global market maker, we are powered by technology, rigorous research, and deep collaboration. As markets grow more data-driven and competitive, you will play a key part in our ability to ingest, model, and deliver high-quality data, and at a scale that is fundamental to maintaining our trading edge.
What you’ll do
- Configure, launch, and maintain robust data pipelines (ETL/ELT) for ingesting and transforming datasets critical to research and trading
- Own the reliability of Optiver’s data ingestion and storage stack and data APIs
- Ingest and manage a variety of data sources, including pricing, reference data, and market datasets
- Model and normalize complex financial datasets to ensure they are clean, structured, and accessible for both research and production trading systems
- Build high-performance APIs that expose data to trading, research, and analytics platforms
- Collaborate directly with traders, researchers, and fellow engineers to understand evolving data needs and deliver reliable, scalable solutions
- Ensure data quality and consistency through validation, monitoring, and robust engineering practices
- Contribute to the architecture of our global data platform and help scale it to meet the demands of increasingly data-intensive strategies
What you’ll get
You’ll join a culture of collaboration and excellence, surrounded by curious thinkers and creative problem-solvers. Motivated by a passion for continuous improvement, you’ll thrive in a supportive, high-performing environment alongside talented colleagues, collectively tackling some of the toughest challenges in the financial markets.
In addition, you’ll receive:
- The opportunity to work alongside best-in-class professionals from over 40 different countries
- A highly competitive compensation package
- Global profit-sharing pool and performance-based bonus structure
- 401(k) match up to 50%
- Comprehensive health, mental, dental, vision, disability, and life coverage
- 25 paid vacation days alongside market holidays
- Extensive office perks, including breakfast, lunch and snacks, regular social events, clubs, sporting leagues and more
Who you are
- 3+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, Software Engineer, or similar role in a high-performance environment, preferably in financial services
- Strong proficiency in Python, with experience using libraries like Pandas, Arrow, and Spark
- Solid understanding of data modeling, normalization, and API development in support of large-scale analytical or trading systems
- Experience working with lakehouse architectures (e.g., Delta Lake, Databricks, AWS) to manage large-scale, high-quality analytical datasets is preferred
- Experience working with real-time and historical market data for fixed income (Credit), ETFs, and/or equities is preferred
- Strong software engineering fundamentals—especially around performance, scalability, and reliability in distributed systems
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with traders, researchers, and other technologists
