Job Description
About OnePay
OnePay is a consumer financial services app with an exceedingly simple mission: to help people achieve financial progress.
Tens of millions of Americans today are unbanked or underbanked, meaning they don’t have enough money in savings to cover a minor emergency. They pay too much in fees, don’t have access to credit at affordable rates, and have little ability to grow their wealth. OnePay’s vision is to create a single app for consumers to save, spend, borrow, and grow their money, bringing our mission to life with simple and accessible banking, credit, and payments products that deliver a best-in-class experience to millions of customers. Our products include:
Checking and high-yield savings accounts
Domestic and international peer-to-peer payments
Credit Builder and credit score monitoring
Digital wallet / contactless payment solutions
Buy-now-pay-later installment loans at Walmart
Why do we have a right to win? We have the backing of Walmart (a Fortune 1) and Ribbit Capital (a preeminent fintech investor), are deeply embedded with the distribution of the world’s largest omnichannel retailer, and have an industry-leading multi-product value proposition — all in addition to having some of the best people and talent in the industry.
There’s never been a better time to build a category-defining business and there has rarely been a team better positioned for the opportunity. Join us!
The Role
As Corporate Counsel, you’ll be a key legal partner helping OnePay scale its financial services and fintech partnerships. You will play a critical role in structuring, negotiating, and managing complex commercial relationships that power our business—while helping shape the systems, practices, and team that enable us to grow responsibly.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role at the intersection of law, finance, and technology—perfect for a strategic legal thinker who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative startup environment.
What You’ll Do
Lead transactions: Draft, negotiate, and manage a wide range of commercial and strategic agreements, including banking-as-a-service partnerships, co-branding deals, payment network agreements, and vendor relationships.
Embed with the business: Partner closely with teams across Product, Commercial, Procurement, Finance, Corp Dev, and Operations to proactively identify legal risks and design practical, business-aligned solutions.
Manage external counsel: Coordinate with outside legal partners to ensure efficient, value-added support—and translate their recommendations into clear, actionable guidance for internal teams.
Support growth transactions: Provide legal coverage for financings, corporate development, and other strategic initiatives as the company scales.
See the bigger picture: Help maintain a holistic view of third-party relationships and associated risks across the business, supporting cross-functional strategy and compliance.
Build for scale: Contribute to the development of internal legal processes, templates, and policies that support growth while maintaining agility and compliance.
What You Bring
J.D. and active membership in good standing with a U.S. state bar.
10+ years of experience practicing corporate and commercial law, including at a leading law firm and in-house at a fintech or financial services company.
Deep experience with complex financial services agreements and strong familiarity with the regulatory landscape impacting fintech and embedded finance.
A practical, business-first mindset—you know how to weigh legal risk in the context of product, operational, and commercial realities.
Excellent drafting, negotiation, and project management skills with an exceptional eye for detail.
Clear, concise communicator—able to tailor your approach to technical and non-legal audiences and influence decision-making at all levels.
Proven ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-moving environment while juggling multiple priorities.
A low-ego, high-ownership attitude and strong collaborative instincts. No task is too big or too small.
Preferred:
Experience with M&A, capital markets, or strategic financing transactions.
