Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking to hire a Principal Systems Engineer/Sr. Principal Systems Engineer to join its team of diverse and qualified individuals. This position will be located in Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel (GBSD) program in the Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) division. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure. This position may be filled at a higher level based on the qualifications below.
The Sentinel program has an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineer to join the team supporting activities including use case development, requirements definition / allocation, functional decomposition, interface definition, verification & validation, and requirements traceability.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with program IPT counterparts to develop supporting systems engineering and design artifacts.
- Work with both technical teams and stakeholders to develop and mature architecture content of large programs design.
- Help develop and incorporate the appropriate requirements for the system and ensure that they are properly represented in the model.
- Develop systems architecture using Cameo Enterprise Architecture (behavioral, structural, analytical).
- Contribute to system requirements development, management, and analysis.
- Develop unifying model techniques, procedures, and processes (for model development, tool integration, and team integration)
Basic Qualifications
This position may be filled at a Principal or Sr. Principal level
- Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need.
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience; a master’s degree with 3 years; or a PhD with 2 years (Sr. Principal requires 8 years with a BS; 6 years with a Master's; or 4 years with a PhD)
- Requires 2 years experience in ICBM (MMIII or Sentinel) OR complex aerospace/defense systems
- Requires 2 years experience in developing and executing Systems Engineering process governance documentation in a DoD Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase
- Requires 1 year experience in team environments with technical leadership responsibilities
- Requires 1 year experience in creating, updating, and maintaining requirements specifications in DOORS
- Requires 1 year experience in creating, updating, and maintaining Model-Based Systems Engineering products
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong understanding and broad application of complex engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.) for the development of complex systems of systems.
Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities.
2+ years experience on large scale / complex system development experience across multiple phases of a development program: preliminary design, detailed design, integration and test, verification and sell off, transition to production.

This position’s standard work schedule is 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
