Northrop Grumman Marine Systems specializes in the development, manufacturing, assembly, and testing of missile launching and handling systems, propulsion, and power generation systems for naval surface ships and submarines.  The Reliability and System Safety Engineering Department ensures reliability and system safety are key considerations throughout the program life cycle starting with design and development through system retirement.  We are looking for you to join our team as a Reliability/Systems Safety Engineer Level 2 / 3 based out of Sunnyvale, CA

What you’ll get to do:

  • This Systems engineering position has an emphasis on Reliability and System Safety Engineering and focuses on Reliability and System Safety requirements development, design integration, verification and validation and service life assessment.

  • Support the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints.

  • Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

  • Participate/Lead and coordinate preparation, conduct and closeout for internal and external customer reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, IRR, TRR, etc.)

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below:

Basic Qualifications for Reliability/Systems Safety Engineer Level 2:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or Physics) discipline with 2 years relevant experience; or Master’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or Physics) no relevant work experience.

  • Experience functioning within a DoD System Engineering Environment.

  • Familiarity with system drawings and documents such as Interface Control Documents, System/Subsystem Specifications, Verification Cross Reference Matrices (VCRM), etc.

  • Familiarity with hardware and/or software design and development, including qualification, engineering, evaluation, analyzing and testing.

  • Familiarity with hardware and/or software design and development, including qualification, engineering, evaluation, analyzing and testing.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.

  • US Citizenship required.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or Physics) discipline with 5 years relevant experience; or Master’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or Physics) discipline with 3 years of relevant work experience.

  • Experience functioning within a DoD System Engineering Environment.

  • Familiarity with system drawings and documents such as Interface Control Documents, System/Subsystem Specifications, Verification Cross Reference Matrices (VCRM), etc.

  • Familiarity with hardware and/or software design and development, including qualification, engineering, evaluation, analyzing and testing.

  • Familiarity with hardware and/or software design and development, including qualification, engineering, evaluation, analyzing and testing.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.

  • US Citizenship required.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting Reliability (Failure Modes Analysis)and System Safety (Hazard Analysis)  hardware analysis

  • Experience developing  schedules budgets and tracking performance (Cost Account Management)

  • Experience with conducting hazardous materials management

  • Active Secret Clearance or higher

Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00Salary Range 2: $110,300.00 - $165,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
