Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems offers an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Engineer Systems – Global SE Interface Engineer (25-077) to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. This position will be located in Huntsville, AL.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates with the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, collectively monitor the battle's progress, and dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that provides an optimized response to threats of all ranges during all phases of flight. C2BMC acts as a force multiplier, globally and regionally integrating and synchronizing autonomous sensors, weapon systems, and operations to enhance performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and demonstrate the capabilities of current and future missile defense systems.

This position will be assigned to the C2BMC-G Systems Engineering Team within SEIT. The Interface Engineer is a Systems Engineer and may occasionally support non-interface systems engineering tasks. The C2BMC-G Interface Engineer will be part of a small team of Interface Engineers responsible for developing ICDs and IDDs. This includes establishing new interfaces between external elements such as space and terrestrial sensors. The Interface Engineer will collaborate with leadership to address issues and challenges as they arise. The Interface Engineer will ensure that the ICDs and IDDs meet the required standards for the program. It is expected that the Interface Lead will create various behavioral diagrams to understand and document the requirements and produce the ICDs and IDDs. The Interface Engineer will establish requirements and capture them in DOORS with enough detail to provide a clear understanding for the implementation teams. The Interface Engineer will also develop behavioral diagrams to clarify the requirements and behavior of the interface.

Essential Functions:

  • The Interface Engineer will be responsible for creating and updating multiple Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Documents
  • The successful candidate will attend interface working group meetings with the MDA customers and representatives from the assigned external element engineering organization, providing support for program integration and test-related efforts linked to the interface
  • May also be assigned to support other interface engineers in developing ICDs for additional BMDS elements, assist with requirements engineering, use case development, and logical architecture modeling tasks as needed by the SE department
  • Will support spiral leadership to ensure that the interface artifacts and system assessment tasks required for the assigned sensor interface are completed as needed
