Job Description

Location: Remote - able to work 10am - 7pm UK time
Type: Long term contract
Start Date: July 2025

Nexus Studios is a global creative studio working with award-winning directors across animation, artful live-action and immersive to redefine the boundaries of entertainment. Our work has received accolades from BAFTA, Emmy, Grammy, Academy Awards to name a few. We work with the world’s leading cultural brands and have a deep rooted history in innovation, XR and crafted storytelling.

The Role:

We are now looking for a Senior developer to build out a platform for a new XR product created with Kotlin and GLSL. This is a senior hands-on development role responsible for building a scalable framework, and supporting a larger development team as they integrate UX/UI work along with external API’s and SDKS into the framework.

This is a live, fan-facing product—not content delivery. The technical infrastructure must support real-time performance, extensibility across leagues and features, and a clear path from MVP through launch and live operations. You'll work closely with a technical lead and technology director to ensure we deliver a robust, performant experience that evolves over time.

What You'll Do:

  • Work with the Tech Lead and Technology Director to define and then taking ownership of building the overall frontend framework, to support the full app development team from prototype through live operations.
  • Support the other developers on the project with systems and tooling they require for their tasks.
  • Support Tech Lead to approve PR/Merge requests from the team as/when needed.
  • Work closely with other technical teams, such as the backend server team who will deliver video and binary content to the app.
  • Integrating with emerging spatial SDKs, real-time engines, and partner-based tooling.
  • Supporting the Technical Lead and Technology Director with technical documentation.

What You Will Bring:

  • Have 8+ years of engineering experience, including 2+ as in Senior or higher role positions. Understand teams in product-oriented environments and a general understanding of full stack development.
  • Significant hands-on experience in Kotlin development and an understanding of how to best structure codebases for live product experiences.
  • Have built or scaled real-time systems, AR/VR/XR applications, or other immersive platforms.
  • Know how to integrate and extend third-party SDKs within live services.
  • Are confident managing ambiguity, prioritizing stability, and communicating tradeoffs.
  • Understand how to design for modular development and phased feature rollout.
  • Are excited by the challenge of building for live, high-emotion moments and performance under pressure.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience building or integrating systems for fan engagement tools  or data-rich entertainment products.
  • Prior exposure to Spatial SDKs and/or new platform tooling.
  • Experience with Unity.
  • Collaborative experience with external platform teams or co-development environments.

This is a Nexus-led role, embedded in a highly collaborative, partner-facing development environment. You’ll help define not just what we build, but how we build it—shaping the product team structure, delivery approach, and evolution of a platform with global reach. If you’re excited about building what’s next in immersive media, and fan engagement, we’d love to talk.

Nexus Studios is proud to work with extraordinary talent as an equal opportunity employer. We embrace individuals of all backgrounds regardless of gender, race, age, abilities or sexual preferences. Our recruitment process is merit-based, ensuring fair treatment to every applicant.
