The opportunity
Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager in the Technology Operations Department you will serve as the primary guardian of our organization's most valuable asset—our data. Working within a dynamic fintech environment that demands both strict regulatory compliance and rapid innovation, you'll balance system stability with the agility needed in Australia's competitive financial services landscape.
Your responsibilities will span the implementation, performance optimisation, and ongoing maintenance of our databases. You'll collaborate closely with development teams, security specialists, and business stakeholders to ensure our database infrastructure meets both technical requirements and business objectives.
As financial transactions demand absolute reliability and security, you'll implement sophisticated high-availability solutions including Always On Availability Groups and replication strategies while ensuring data integrity through Change Data Capture mechanisms. You'll also develop As a Database Administrator at Netwealth, you will be the cornerstone of our data infrastructure strategy. This role combines technical expertise with strategic thinking to architect, implement, and maintain mission-critical SQL Server database environments that power our innovative financial products and services.
About you
This role requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can adapt to evolving technology landscapes, and understands the unique challenges of maintaining database systems in the highly regulated Australian financial sector. The ideal candidate combines deep technical knowledge with a strategic perspective on how database infrastructure supports business growth and innovation.
Specific skills and experience include:
Expertise to implement and maintain SQL Server database systems across on-premises and cloud infrastructure according to industry best practices and financial regulatory requirements
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders including Collaboration with development teams to optimise database design and query performance
Develop and implement disaster recovery strategies including replication and availability groups
Configure and maintain Change Data Capture (CDC) for data auditing and synchronisation
Evaluate new database technologies for use within Netwealth including demonstrated expertise in database architecture design and implementation
Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration both on-premise and cloud
Advanced knowledge of SQL Server replication technologies and experience configuring and managing SQL Server Availability Groups
Experience with disaster recovery planning and implementation
Microsoft SQL Server certifications (preferred)
CosmosDB and Postgres Experience (preferred)
Experience in the financial or fintech industry (preferred) and Knowledge of Australian financial regulatory requirements (advantageous)
