The National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR), an affiliate of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Data Analyst who enjoys working for a stable organization that strives every day to support the public good and make a difference. The ideal candidate for the position must have excellent communication and customer service skills and the ability to build lasting relationships with those we serve.  

 

This is a full-time position which will allow the successful candidate to work remotely or hybrid in the NIPR’s physical office space in Kansas City, MO. 

 

Responsibilities include:  

  • Assists in the creation and maintenance of Business Intelligence Data warehouse solutions 

  • Leverages the data warehouse to provision datasets that meet reporting requirements set by the business 

  • Builds and maintains processes to consume data from external APIs into the data warehouse for necessary projects 

  • Facilitates communication with business leadership to relay high value insights to support decision making 

  • Uses scripting languages for ad hoc data requests in conjunction with data warehouse data to provide highly customized reports and extracts 

  • Collaborates with other teams to define, collect, and visualize performance metrics across the organization. 

  • Serves as a data SME, builds in-depth knowledge of NIPR databases 

  • Knows what we do and do not have available 

  • Knows where to find data requested by the business. 

  • Identifies areas lacking data needed for reporting and recommends solutions to obtain that data. 

  • Works with BI analysts and stakeholders to identify reporting requirements and provide solutions on how to meet those requirements 

  • Follows NAIC/NIPR accepted guidelines on version control for all technical development 

  • Defines dashboarding standards and ensures they are met in all production dashboards 

  • Works with other members of the Data Analytics team to coordinate end to end data solutions from source to target (published reports) 

  • Will also serve as a subject matter expert on data analytics & Tableau, demonstrating leadership and setting good examples for the team  

  • Works to ensure all extracts, ETLs, and reports are up to date and working relating to the data warehouse 

  • Troubleshoots data warehouse issues preventing data from updating 

  • Effectively estimates work of self and other team members 

  • Cooperates with the IT (Tech & data) departments to deploy software and hardware upgrades that make it possible to leverage big data use cases 

 

Minimum education and or experience required: 

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Data Science, Mathematics/Statistics, or another related analytical field and 5 years related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. 

 

Preferred Experience: 

  • 3+ years of experience with Business Intelligence Tools such as Tableau 

  • 3+ years of experience working with data warehousing platforms such as Snowflake or Oracle 

  • Experience in data management, data analytics, data engineering or similar 

  • Experience working in AWS or other Cloud Data Environments 

  • Experience working with insurance related data (Nice to have)  

  • Experience working with financial data (Nice to have) 

  • Tableau certification is a plus 

  • Snowflake certification is a plus 

 

Skills and Abilities:  

  • Must have a strong background in data analytics, and business intelligence 

  • Hands-on experience in reporting and BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Amazon QuickSight, JReports 

  • Proficiency in SQL, and experience with at least 1 scripting language (R, Python)  

  • Displays willingness to learn modern cloud-based technologies to support and operate data warehouses with proficiency in extracting data from Analytical warehouse such as Snowflake, Redshift and/or Oracle 

  • Must possess strong communication skills.  

  • Communicates ideas, concerns, and issues effectively both written and verbally. 

  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail. 

  • Demonstrates ability for technical and creative problem solving. 

 

Compensation: 

$105,000 to $120,000 to be commensurate with education and experience.
