Position: Manufacturing Engineer
Shift: Day shift
Compensation: $30-38 per hour


Description

This Manufacturing Engineer role is responsible for providing the technical expertise necessary to design, develop, and implement manufacturing processes/systems related to the fabrication and assembly of track-type tractors. In this role, you will work both independently and as part of a team to maintain and improve processes and systems used in manufacturing. In addition, Manufacturing Engineers function as specialists and subject matter experts for technical planning throughout a manufacturing facility.


Job Duties

  • Support the fabrication processes, including New Product Introduction (NPI), to ensure that processes/changes (E.g., drawings, standards, manufacturing BOM) are designed for manufacturability and ready for production.
  • Troubleshoot day-to-day process problems, initiate solutions, and follow up to evaluate the effectiveness of changes.
  • Analyze engineering change notices, determine part or process changes, initiate and implement all changes
  • Improve Value Stream metrics by defining and implementing process improvement activities

Requirements

What skills needed:

Judgment and Decision Making

  • Engage in creative problem solving to address operational issues, including ergonomic/safety, process efficiency improvements utilizing methodologies (E.g., 6 Sigma Green Belt), process bottlenecks, and quality (E.g., Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), PPAP).
  • Identify Root Causes and implement Corrective Actions to address Safety, Quality, Velocity, and Cost opportunities identified through projects, CI Cards, or CPI/BIQ issues
  • Work within the Value Stream Team to lead Root Cause/Corrective Action to reduce or eliminate out-of-process defects. Provides technical expertise and guidance to the value stream for fabrication/machining processes.

Manufacturing Processes

  • Develop/implement shop floor processes ensuring proper tooling, work instructions, BOMs, routings, standard work, control plan, SFMEAs, and FMEAs across value streams in Building LL.
  • Analyze and recommend current and future systems, procedures, training, and equipment needs based on understanding and communication with users.
  • Determine the acceptability of new equipment based on usage requirements and recommend modification or revision
  • Develop and implement assembly processes in line with Caterpillar standard processes

Manufacturing Safety

  • Proactively work to develop engineering controls in the manufacturing process to mitigate high energy sources.
  • Develop easy-to-follow processes, making it difficult for things to go wrong.
  • Ensure new employees are certified to perform standard work and work independently.
