The Business Service Representative will initiate, maintain, and develop employer relationships with the purpose of placing AJCC clients in jobs.
Job seekers and businesses alike can access a comprehensive range of employment services at no cost, from training opportunities and placement assistance to candidate recruitment, at the America’s Job Centers of California, operated by JVS SoCal.
Requirements
- Proven track record in business-to-business sales in a performance driven occupation. Must have experience in sales.
- Prefer a minimum of two years of experience in Workforce Development or Career Counseling. Knowledge of CalJOBSSM system very helpful. Knowledge of WIOA common measures and requirements is a plus.
- BA preferred or 3 or more years of related experience.
- Prefer Bilingual in Spanish or other community-based language.
- Must be detail oriented and can write clear, concise, professional case notes.
- Proficient in Microsoft office products including Outlook, Work, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Customer service attitude, assertiveness to meet outcomes, and maintain professionalism at all times.
- Prior experience with Dislocated Workers and high-risk populations is helpful.
- Skill in facilitating groups, writing resumes, and working with diverse populations is useful.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Public speaking and communicating effectively with stakeholders in written, verbal, including electronic media, using positive interpersonal skills.
- Able to work in TEAM environment. Ability to use good judgment, interview techniques and interpersonal skills.
- Requires the ability to understand labor market information and employer requirements.
- Must be highly organized, detail orientated and work within time-restraints and deadlines.
- Complete CWDP course and exam within 3 months of employment and secure CWDP certification within 12 months of employment.
- Work flexible hours, including early morning, evenings, and weekends is required.
- Travel to various locations, such as businesses, worksites, off-site meetings, and other related events.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coach and assist clients in overcoming barriers to employment, will assist with filling applications, preparing for interviews, conducting job search
- Develop connections with employers to provide an array of services including, but not limited to, job leads, targeted recruitment, rapid response & lay off aversions, employer-based training opportunities such as subsidized employment, on-the-job training, incumbent worker training, tax credit information, and other resources.
- Schedule weekly recruitments on a re-occurring basis at the AJCC, employer premises, or virtually; work closely with Career Coaches to ensure clients are job ready and referred to job fairs. Facilitate prescreening sessions to interview job seekers on behalf of employers, and those qualified will be referred to employers. BSR will follow-up with employer to capture placement information.
- Coordinate and facilitate events such as Town Hall Meetings, Employer Roundtables, Business Services Orientation and related, virtual platform, hybrid, or in-person.
- Conduct ongoing outreaching to perspective & existing employers through various methods such as cold calling, field work, campaigns, and so forth. Ensuring services are rendered to businesses in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.
- Generate and distribute job leads to AJCC staff and partners, along with updating job board in centers on weekly basis.
- Conduct presentations to various partner agencies, such as Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Corporations, County Departments, local government offices, businesses, and so forth.
- Record all employer codes (E-Codes) into the CalJOBS System in real-time. Conduct Business Needs Assessment (BNA) with employers and enter into the system. Enter case notes into the system and upload documents.
- Meet and exceed contract goals for employer based training services, outreaching to new businesses & high growth industries, providing services to repeated businesses, and job orders.
- Collaborate with County and partner agencies on regional efforts, including pre-apprenticeship & apprenticeship, training cohorts, job fairs, and related events with a focus on priority populations.
- Execute employer agreements, including pre-apprenticeships, On-the-Job Training (OJT), Incumbent Worker Training (IWT), Transitional Job (TJ), youth work experience and so forth. Process employer reimbursements in a timely manner.
- Provide referrals of businesses that are laying off workers to the Rapid Response Team
- Perform administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments & meetings, creating & updating trackers (spreadsheets), completing Daily Activity Report (DAR), and so forth.
- Other duties assigned as needed for the efficient operation of the Center/Program. Must meet weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly program goals as set by Program Supervisor. Must attend any state, county, local, or company4-month training or meetings.

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must be able to do the following: stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions; climb up and down stairs; bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull, push, and lift; reach both above and below shoulder height. Specific visual abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to visually inspect work. Manual dexterity to operate computer and other office equipment required.
