Job Description
Primary Function of Position
This role offers the chance to lead the development of SP I&A surgical solutions from concept to market launch for the da Vinci SP Surgical System. You will manage high-impact projects that enhance the SP Platform's capabilities, focusing on product ideation, development, and launch. Responsibilities include market research, data-driven decision-making, and collaboration with cross-functional teams like Engineering and Product Design. You will also coordinate with Marketing and Sales to develop product strategies, including pricing and go-to-market plans, ensuring successful product launches.
Responsibilities
- Shape and execute product strategies aligned with the company mission, focusing on strategic planning and execution.
- Conduct market research to understand customer needs and industry trends, informing product decisions.
- Identify and refine product requirements closely connected to prioritized user needs. Collaborate with partners to collect and aggregate valuable customer/user insights.
- Utilize data analytics to gather insights on user behavior, product usage, and performance metrics. Leverage this empirical evidence to generate KPI’s and key value propositions.
- Develop compelling business cases for new products and features, securing buy-in from customers and key internal teams. Conduct forecasts and competitive assessments to drive data-informed decision-making
- Effective communication across diverse channels is paramount to ensure clarity and conciseness in all interactions.
- Engage stakeholders effectively, providing product direction and achieving organizational alignment.
- Champion the product strategy, manage the product portfolio, and communicate product goals with stakeholders.
- Lead projects soup to nuts, including ideation, design processes, defining product claims, and oversee successful product launches.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on your product and its competitors, providing insights to sales teams, surgeons, hospital administrators, and OR staff.
Qualifications
Experience and Education
- Minimum of 5 years in a medical device role and 8 or more years of cumulative professional experience in product management, marketing, engineering, business development, or equivalent roles.
- Strong preference for engineers with a minimum of 5 years of experience, or 3 years of Product Management experience in the medical device space, with a proven track record of defining, developing, and launching excellent products.

- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
- Excellent teamwork skills with a proven ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines, including engineering, design, marketing, sales, and customers, to ensure product success.
- Ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority and bridge communication between diverse groups, with a capacity to harness team energy effectively.
Technical and Analytical Skills
- Apply first principles thinking to problem-solving.
- Exhibit a strong sense of ownership, with the ability to thoroughly explore user needs and navigate technical design constraints.
- A data-first mindset and strong quantitative skills to analyze open-ended problems, leveraging data to steer cross-functional teams toward effective decision-making.
- Preferably have experience in the operating room, providing practical insights into product usability and constraints.
- Apply critical and systems thinking to evaluate the broader context and interdependencies within product development and strategy.
Product and Market Insight
- Passion for details, design, clinical value, and building a delightful user experience.
- Experience with minimally invasive surgery preferred.

- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.
- Self-directed with awareness to proactively seek advice and develop professional skills, demonstrating a self-starter mentality.
Travel
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
