LOCATION: This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days per week at a secure controlled information facility in Sterling, Virginia.
CLEARANCE: This position requires that the candidate have an active US DOD TS or above security clearance.

The Lead DevSecOps Engineer is a strategic and hands-on role responsible for architecting, implementing, and overseeing secure, scalable infrastructure solutions in support of complex DoD software systems. This individual leads DevSecOps initiatives across projects, mentors engineering teams, and ensures alignment with security and compliance standards. The role blends technical depth with leadership, driving best practices across the software development lifecycle—emphasizing automation, security, and continuous improvement.
This position is for the on the Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) Engagement Controller and Manager (BECM) program, and requires configuration management (CM) and systems engineering skills in addition to DevSecOps experience. This position will support configuration tracking, software baselining, CM plan development, and program audits in classified, highly regulated environments.
Role & Responsibilities
- Lead DevSecOps efforts, promoting collaboration, knowledge sharing, and technical excellence.
- Define and drive the strategic direction for DevSecOps practices, tooling, and infrastructure across multiple projects.
- Solve complex technical challenges and rapidly adapt to emerging technologies and evolving security requirements.
- Conduct in-depth technical analysis of operating systems, applications, databases, networks, and storage systems.
- Architect, establish, and oversee infrastructure using infrastructure as code and automated configuration management tools.
- Develop and maintain a robust DevSecOps platform supporting agile software development.
- Oversee creation, integration, and optimization of CI/CD pipelines across GitHub and GitLab ecosystems.
- Optimize build and deployment processes using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Design, implement, and continuously refine observability strategies for cloud-native and hybrid environments.
- Develop custom tooling and automation scripts to enable developer self-service and platform resilience.
- Drive the adoption of DevOps best practices across teams—including testing, code health, compliance, and monitoring.
- Collaborate with program leadership to ensure DevSecOps strategies align with business and mission goals.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization and implement efficient resource scaling strategies.
- Support creation and execution of CM plans, baselines, and version control strategies.
- Lead and participate in configuration control boards (CCBs), CM audits, and build reviews.
- Generate CM metrics, track engineering data, and resolve CM-related issues.
- Contribute to Software Version Description (SVD) documents and controlled deliverables.
Work on classified C2 software programs within secure facilities in Sterling, VA (full-time onsite requirement).
Required Experience
- 10+ years of experience in engineering and implementing on-premises and cloud-native solutions.
- 4+ years of experience in configuration management or software development / delivery
- 2+ years of experience in a technical leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience leading DevSecOps adoption in secure, regulated environments.
- Hands-on experience deploying infrastructure and applications using GitOps tools like ArgoCD or Flux.
- Experience working in cross-functional software development teams.
- Expertise in at least one major public cloud provider (AWS or GCP preferred).
- Proven track record in architecting, developing, securing, and operating Kubernetes-based platforms and cloud infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience with service mesh technologies like Istio and LinkerD.
- Expertise in automation and configuration management tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, and Helm.
- Advanced CI/CD pipeline implementation with GitHub Actions and GitLab Pipelines.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and communicate effectively in high-stakes, mission-critical environments with a customer-focused approach.
- Eligibility to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) for government information systems access.
- Must be a US Citizen with an active US DOD TS or above Security Clearance
- Must be able to work onsite, at a secure controlled information facility located in Sterling, VA
Preferred Experience
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate Certification.
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator Certification.
- Scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) and workflow automation.
- Ability to implement and enforce security controls compliant with NIST 800-171, DoD Cloud Computing SRG, CMMC, and FedRAMP.
- DoD IAT Level II Security Certification (Security + CE, GSEC, SSCP, or CNNA Security).
- Configuration Management in classified environments.
- CM toolchain experience (Git, Jenkins, GitLab, Jira, Docker, Artifactory).
- Knowledge of CM procedures, audits, and baseline tracking.
- Ability to travel as needed
