Position Overview

The Assistant Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing all accounting functions, overseeing a team of Accounting Department Assistants, and ensuring accuracy in financial reporting. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with a strong background in accounting practices, preferably within the insurance sector.


Key Responsibilities:

General Accounting & Financial Reporting

  1. Maintain accurate general ledger and ensure proper coding of transactions
  2. Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports
  3. Oversight of bank account reconciliation, commission management
  4. Monitor and record incoming premiums and outgoing commissions as needed, including JE’s
  5. Monitor cash flow, expenses, and forecasting activities
  6. Oversee E-PAY transactions, work with the Operations Team as needed
  7. Run and analyze accounting-related reports
  8. Collaborate with management to provide financial insights and support strategic decision-making
  9. Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and compliance  

Premium and Commission Accounting

 

  1. Oversight of policy premiums, agency billings, and direct bill reconciliations
  2. Oversight and processing of producer commission payments and carrier commission statements
  3. Ensure timely posting of earned vs. unearned income for reporting

Reporting

  1. Provide reports to management to support strategic decisions

 Applied EPIC & Accounting System Management 

  1. Use Applied EPIC or comparable agency management software for financial tracking
  2. Work with software vendors to troubleshoot and optimize system usage
  3. Ensure proper system setup for financial workflows and reporting

 Payables, Receivables & Cash Flow Management 

  1. Manage/Oversight of accounts payable (vendor payments, rent, utilities, etc.)
  2. Oversee accounts receivable (client payments, payment reminders)
  3. Monitor daily cash flow and prepare cash projections

 Cross-Functional Support 

  1. Liaise with producers, account managers, and executives on accounting-related items.
  2. Provide training or support to team members on financial procedures
  3. Recommend improvements to accounting processes and internal controls

Requirements

 

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
  2. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  3. Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
  4. Experience with Applied EPIC and insurance accounting is a strong plus
  5. Proficient in Excel and accounting software
  6. Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and communication skills
