About the Role
What is an Instructional Designer?
The Instructional Designer is an employee-focused role ensuring that all 2-1-1 employees have access to engaging, effective, and accessible learning experiences. The Instructional Designer supports the development of both digital and instructor-led learning, blending eLearning, classroom materials, and physical tools to equip staff to provide a WOW customer experience to our clients. This role combines expertise in instructional design, adult learning theory, and technology to create materials ranging from facilitator guides and participant materials to eLearning modules and performance support tools.
What You’ll Do
As a key member of the team, you will:
Design and Development of Training Materials
- Design and develop training materials for various learning formats, including:
- Instructor-led training (ILT) materials: facilitator guides, PowerPoint presentations, participant handouts, job aids.
-eLearning courses using authoring tools (iSpring, Articulate, etc.).
-Physical and digital performance support tools: desk aids, handbooks, manuals, process maps, websites, and online articles.
- Apply adult learning principles, universal design standards, and accessibility best practices.
- Partner with Learning Specialists and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure accuracy and instructional effectiveness.
- Maintain templates and brand consistency across all training assets.
Blended Learning Strategy
- Create cohesive learning programs integrating instructor-led, eLearning, virtual, and self-paced components.
- Evaluate and adapt learning strategies based on learner feedback and emerging trends.
- Develop engaging tools and materials to support employee onboarding, systems training, and professional development.
Learning Technology Collaboration
- Assist with content management and administration within our Learning Management System (currently iSpring LMS) in collaboration with the Training Coordinator.
- Ensure eLearning content meets SCORM/AICC/xAPI compliance standards.
- Utilize tools such as Canva, screen capture software, and video editing platforms to enhance learning materials.
- Maintain accurate system access, including dissemination of licenses, assignment of authorized users, and deactivation of accounts.
Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
- Design assessments, knowledge checks, and evaluations to measure learning effectiveness.
- Analyze feedback and learning data to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Routinely update materials to ensure relevance and accuracy.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or combination of higher learning and 3 years related experience.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in instructional design, training development, or learning & development.
- Knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional design models (ADDIE, SAM), and blended learning strategies.
- Proficiency with course authoring tools (iSpring, Articulate, Captivate, or similar).
- Knowledge of learning technologies, tools, and Learning Management Systems.
- Strong project and program management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook.
- Proven experience designing instructor-led and eLearning training materials.
- Competent in evaluation and measurement of learning initiatives.
- Experience writing learner-facing copy to publication-ready standards.
- Ability to build supportive relationships, influence peers without authority, and collaborate cross-departmentally.
- Familiarity with accessibility and universal design for learning standards.
- Bilingual Spanish preferred.
