Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and curious Software Engineering Intern to support our engineering team in building event-driven backend services. Over a 12-week internship period, the intern will contribute to the development of a microservice that processes real-time Kafka events and integrates with various internal APIs to support business-critical workflows.


The intern will contribute to a real-world engineering project by designing, building, and testing a microservice that responds to real-time events. This includes data processing, system integration, and improving code reliability through observability and documentation. The intern will work closely with a mentor and cross-functional engineering stakeholders to deliver a meaningful technical solution within a supportive learning environment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Build and test a backend microservice using Node.js or Python
  • Listen to real-time Kafka events and process PTO (Permission to Operate) data
  • Evaluate system eligibility and interact with internal APIs
  • Implement error handling, logging, and performance monitoring
  • Write technical documentation and deployment instructions
  • Present final project outcomes to engineering stakeholders


Requirements
  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • Familiarity with backend development (Node.js or Python preferred)
  • Interest in event-driven systems and distributed architectures
  • Exposure to APIs, JSON, and RESTful design concepts
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
