Join a global engineering team utilizing advanced design tools and techniques to develop state-of-the-art Computed Tomography (CT) systems. The CT Mechanical Architect will work with cross-functional teams to design and develop complex state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging systems. The Mechanical Architect acts as both a strong individual contributor as well as an experienced mentor to other engineers on the team. Activities will include computer aided design, finite element analysis/simulation, documentation, prototyping, design verification/testing, and integration of hardware components and subsystems.

Job Description

Summary

The CT Mechanical Architect will be responsible for designing and developing components and subsystems of Computed Tomography (CT) scanners to meet customer needs and business objectives. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams within engineering, as well as manufacturing, quality assurance, and service to ensure that designs are safe, reliable, and cost effective. The CT Mechanical Architect will also play a key role in driving innovation and continuous improvement within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Design robust and cost-effective mechanical components and subsystems for CT scanners, ensuring designs are safe, reliable and cost effective.

  • Work with senior technical leaders to manage requirements and project scope.

  • Apply advanced technical knowledge and practical experience, incorporating input from cross-functional teams to solve complex engineering challenges.

  • Operate independently with the expertise required to influence and drive technical execution and project delivery.

  • Participate in all phases of new product development, including concept generation, system architecture, documentation, design, prototyping, testing, supplier coordination, manufacturing integration, and service support.

  • Translate product specifications and requirements into detailed component and assembly designs, selecting appropriate materials and defining performance standards.

  • Perform analysis, calculations, simulations, and testing as needed to validate design assumptions.

  • Lead the construction and testing of prototypes and pilot units, and analyze test data to inform design improvements.

  • Serve as the design owner for subsystems or projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to execute product development plans, and representing the subsystem or project to the broader organization.

  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers, supporting their technical growth and development.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 7 years relevant experience in mechanical design engineering of complex electro-mechanical systems

  • Demonstrated experience with design rigor including leading Technical Design Reviews (TDR), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), requirements development and testing.

Desired Characteristics

  • Demonstrated technical leadership

  • Strong understanding of CT scanner hardware and its applications in medical imaging

  • Experience with intellectual property invention including patent applications and disclosures

  • Experience with Creo 3D modeling software

  • Experience with ANSYS Static Structural analysis and simulation

  • Familiarity with applicable regulatory standards including IEC60601-1

  • Knowledge of GE HealthCare process including the Quality Management System

  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex projects

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to details

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to travel occasionally for supplier and/or customer visits

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
