Forbes Vetted is seeking a Features and Special Projects Writer to join our commerce editorial team. The role will be responsible for writing product-focused content to support the site’s features section, which publishes columns and franchises, gift guides, retailer news stories, product odes and more. This role will also support the production and promotion of the Forbes Vetted Best Product Awards—our annual list of the top consumer items across categories—as well as other marquee brand moments and special projects.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience reporting and writing content in at least two of the topic areas Forbes Vetted covers, which include Parenting, Consumer Tech, Gear, Mattress & Sleep, Home & Kitchen, Fashion, Beauty & Grooming and Travel. They’ll also have experience writing longer-form feature content, and will be comfortable interviewing prominent people like celebrities, CEOs and brand founders for coverage. This role reports to the Forbes Vetted Features and Special Projects Director.
Responsibilities:
- Report and write several well-researched and engaging feature stories and gift guides each week
- Brainstorm and pitch stories as a part of the regular ongoing content planning process
- Pitch talent for features columns and franchises, and book and interview these individuals for relevant coverage
- Assist in the production of special projects and awards lists throughout the year, including the Forbes Vetted Best Product Awards, Forbes Vetted Sleep Week, the Forbes Vetted Holiday Gift Guide and similar
- Track content performance against features team and individual goals
- Frequently collaborate across teams, including with commerce strategy, data, audience development, partnerships and product, as well as other editors and writers on staff
- Participate in sales event coverage, including shifts over holiday weekends that may include Memorial Day, Labor Day, Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday/Cyber Monday
- Attend virtual team meetings and contribute to Forbes Vetted’s positive, friendly culture
The ideal candidate:
- Is a writer with 3+ years of experience covering at least two of the topics we cover at Forbes Vetted—Fashion, Beauty & Grooming, Parenting, Consumer Tech, Gear, Mattress & Sleep, Home & Kitchen and Travel—for a commerce or editorial publication
- Has a proven track record of researching, sourcing and interviewing authoritative experts and feature subjects for inclusion in articles
- Has impeccable writing, editing and reporting skills, as well as a network of PR contacts and expert sources to consult
- Has prior experience with commerce writing and affiliate/commerce content strategy, plus a strong understanding of SEO best practices
- Is user-focused and understands editorial independence, but can deftly balance this with the needs of the business
- Is eager to innovate and experiment editorially to help grow the Forbes Vetted audience
- Thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment and can seamlessly write clean and authoritative copy
The annual base salary range for this role is $70,000 - $80,000.
Forbes has estimated the compensation range set forth above in good faith. The compensation range is what we believe we will offer, and ultimately pay, a successful candidate. In determining this range, we consider the experience, level of education (if applicable to the role), knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be had by a successful candidate as well as the budget and the company’s pay rates, generally.
