Figma is seeking a Manager of Software Engineering focused on Editor Usability, responsible for enhancing design tools and the overall user experience. The role involves leading a high-performing engineering team and collaborating cross-functionally to uphold the quality and craft expected from Figma's products.
Responsibilities: Develop and execute a long-term roadmap for Figma’s Designer experience, manage and support engineering teams, and foster a positive work environment while collaborating with product and engineering leadership.
Skills: Proven leadership skills in managing high-output engineering teams, experience in building scalable software systems, and cross-functional collaboration are essential. Technical curiosity and a passion for design are also important.
Qualifications: Minimum of 2 years in a management role with 5+ years in software systems development. Experience in front-end development with WebAssembly and React is a plus.
Location: This position can be performed remotely from anywhere in the United States or from one of Figma's US hubs (San Francisco or New York).
Compensation: Not provided by employer. Typical compensation ranges for this position are between $140,000 - $200,000.
Editor Usability is at the core of Figma’s Design Tools pillar, and is directly responsible for the experience of designers working in the Figma editor. Our team’s work creates the high quality and performant experience that Figma users have come to expect. As Figma’s product offerings continue to grow and evolve, Editor Usability’s work is critical to making sure that other teams are able to offer the same quality editor features in their products. We’re looking for an experienced and accomplished engineering leader to join us in our mission to scale Figma while upholding the quality and craft our users love.
This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States.
What you’ll do at Figma:
- Build and execute on a long-term roadmap to ensure that Figma’s Designer experience remains world-class, and that Figma’s internal product teams are able to leverage our Editor capabilities across our entire suite of products
- Work closely with cross-functional partners and other engineering teams to push the envelope for craft and quality in Figma Design
- Hire, manage, support and develop a team of engineers, including staff level engineers
- Partner with product and engineering leadership to set strategy, priorities, and mission for teams and projects
- Establish trust within and across teams by creating accountability and a positive work environment in partnership with other leaders in the organization

We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- 2+ years of experience managing and leading a high output engineering team
- 5+ years of experience building and maintaining scalable software systems
- Demonstrated leadership skills in building a high-performing and highly engaged engineering team; including a proven track record of motivating, mentoring, and guiding senior engineers, and hiring top industry talent
- Demonstrated exceptional ability to work cross-functionally across Product, Design, and Marketing, as well as collaborating with other engineering teams to ship both customer and internal-facing projects
- Technical curiosity - you should be ready to learn and grow alongside your team - and a love of design and craft
While not required, it’s an added plus if you also have:
- Experience working in the front-end, including working with WebAssembly and React
- Experience working with modern web browser internals and performance
