Employment and Compliance Counsel
Job Description
As Employment and Compliance Counsel at Everlaw, you will represent Legal in three critical areas: corporate matters, employment law matters, and compliance and ethics matters. Reporting directly to the Associate General Counsel, Head of Corporate and Compliance, you will work cross-functionally to drive Everlaw’s business objectives while mitigating legal risks. In this role, you’ll combine strategic vision with practical expertise to develop scalable legal processes and partnerships, and ensure compliance across a variety of employment, corporate, and compliance initiatives.
This is a full-time, exempt position based in our Oakland, CA office with a hybrid work schedule: in office M/W/Th with the option to work from home Tu/Fr.

In your role, you'll...
- Be the Employment Legal Advisor: Partner proactively with Everlaw’s People, Finance, and Legal teams to support and manage all aspects of the employee journey, including performance management, investigations, accommodations, employee privacy, compensation, equity, reorganizations, terminations, disputes, and other employment-related matters.
- Manage Employment and Corporate Matters: Draft and edit employment-related documents, correspondence, agreements, and processes. Assist in the management of Everlaw’s Stock Plan and related board and stockholder matters, provide practical advice on legal issues and risks to stakeholders and leadership.
- Enhance Operational Efficiency: Partner with the People team and Legal Operations to identify and develop scalable ways to deliver legal services and drive business results, including maintaining playbooks, training programs, and self-service tools to empower the People and Legal teams.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work with the People, Finance, Legal, and other teams to solve problems, build partnerships, and manage global employee issues efficiently. Develop and implement strategies to mitigate legal risks.
- Drive Compliance and Ethics: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor and employment laws, regulations, and industry best practices. Support the maintenance of corporate policies, including Everlaw’s Code of Conduct, handbooks, hotline processes, and internal documentation. Assist in the development, implementation, and refinement of compliance and ethics programs, including training, communications, and risk assessments.
About you
- Business and Legal Advisor: Track record of practical business and solution oriented counseling in a fast-paced environment and under tight deadlines.
- Strong Issue Spotter: Excellent judgement and risk-based approach, with a proven ability to identify, prioritize, and resolve issues quickly and independently.
- Scaling and Efficiency Skills: Skilled in implementing legal processes that streamline operations and enable growth. Fluent in translating legal advice into actionable guidance for business teams.
- Highly Motivated and Entrepreneurial: A proactive problem solver who finds creative and practical solutions to complex challenges in a fast-paced environment and has a desire to learn and grow.
- Qualified to Practice Law in the U.S.: JD or equivalent, licensed in California or eligible to become Registered In-House Counsel in California.
- Multidisciplinary Counsel: A minimum of 3 years of relevant legal experience, with a focus on employment law, ideally including 1+ years at a law firm and 1+ year in-house.
- You are authorized to work in the United States without restrictions. Please note that at this time, Everlaw is not sponsoring visas for this role.

- The expected salary range for this role is between $148,000 and $187,000. The final offered salary will be dependent upon many factors including the candidate’s experience and skills. The base pay range is subject to change in the future.
