Materials Intern

Harsco Rail is looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Materials Intern to join our Materials Department. This internship offers a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in materials management, process documentation, and supply chain flow within a manufacturing environment. You'll play a key role in optimizing our materials processes and improving efficiency. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

Will include the following, but other duties may be assigned: 

• Develop and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions specifically for Material Planners and Material Expeditors. 

• Create and update SOPs and Work Instructions related to Harsco's Factory Track system. 

• Assist with a kitting layout project to optimize material presentation and flow on the production floor. 

• Meet regularly with team members to observe and record daily, weekly, and monthly job duties in detail for documentation purposes. 

• Review and analyze the flow of materials within our manufacturing environment to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement. 

• Collaborate with the Materials, Production, and IT teams to ensure documentation accuracy and process efficiency. 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS 

• Process Documentation: Ability to understand and clearly document operational processes and workflows. 

• Analytical Skills: Strong ability to observe, record details, and analyze material flow within a manufacturing setting. 

• Supply Chain/Logistics Interest: Foundational understanding or strong interest in materials management, inventory control, and supply chain operations. 

• Software Proficiency: Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with ERP systems or Factory Track is a plus, but not required. 

• Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively gather information, document processes, and interact with various team members. 

• Attention to Detail: Meticulous and thorough in documenting procedures and instructions. 

• Proactive & Organized: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and take initiative.
