Purpose of the role

We are seeking two experienced Project Managers who will initially manage delivery of workstreams within the UK Digital Twin Centre Programme.  

Led by Digital Catapult and funded by Belfast Region City Deal and Innovate UK, the UK Digital Twin Centre will actively enable industry and innovators to safely embrace, explore and realise the dynamic power of digital twins.  Accelerating the adoption of digital twins to drive global competitive advantage for UK businesses. Digital Catapult give businesses real-time capabilities to make smarter decisions and achieve better outcomes, enabling the potential of digital twins to be realised. Through partnerships with industry pioneers, we demonstrate how digital twins can revolutionise critical industries in maritime, aerospace and defence, and advance the products, services, and systems of the future.

WHAT YOU’LL DO (Duties)

Collaborating closely with colleagues across business development, product, technology, marketing and finance you will design, lead, plan, initiate, resource, monitor and ensure delivery of the activities of projects on budget, on time, and at a suitable quality level in order to achieve the desired project impact. You will:

  • Plan and manage the delivery of complex innovation projects, ensuring on-time, on-budget, and high-quality outcomes
  • Monitor project performance, manage risks and implement mitigation strategies as necessary
  • Ensure that the tasks on the project are clearly defined and agreed with internal and external stakeholders and progressed to the agreed timescale, budget and expected impact using the appropriate controls, processes and procedures, whilst maintaining an audit trail
  • Initiate and maintain all project artefacts such as budgets, RAID logs, RACI matrices, milestones, project plans and resource plans
  • Coordinate, enthuse and engage cross-functional teams including technologists, researchers, and external stakeholders, building strong relationships
  • Manage suppliers and 3rd party vendors ensuring contracted deliverables are on time, on budget and of expected quality. This may include evaluation of prospective suppliers prior to engagement. 
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with all project stakeholders
  • Manage project risks, issues, and dependencies proactively
  • Track project performance and generate regular reports for internal and external use
  • Report through regular status updates, initiate and run regular stand-up meetings, update sessions and workshops as needed. 
  • Along with the relevant internal stakeholders, plan and develop coherent project strategy, structure (workstreams and tasks), and resourcing plans. Define realistic goals, milestones and targets that will lead to the required outcomes and impact. 
  • Aide the preparation of project proposals, budgets, and resource plans
  • Ensure compliance with programme and project governance including ISO9001 and ISO27001 standard
  • Ensure compliance with funding and reporting requirements (e.g. Innovate UK, Horizon Europe) 
  • Work closely with the Operational and Project Management Office (OPMO) to ensure compliance with governance standards and resourcing processes.
  • Be accountable to the Head of Project Delivery for governance compliance, risk escalation, progress & performance reporting, and revenue recognition. 
  • Foster effective communication and relationships within project teams to ensure seamless information flow and resource allocation.
  • Contribute to the wider Programme Delivery team encouraging and being a part of a culture of continuous improvement. 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR (Experience)

  • Experience delivering Collaborative Research and Development (CR&D) projects
  • Significant hands-on project management experience in an IT or Technology setting
  • Thorough knowledge of project management tools such as MS Project, SmartSheet, JIRA, Trello or Confluence
  • Experience of managing Agile and/or Waterfall projects
  • Ideally formal Project Management qualification e.g. PRINCE2, Certified Scrum Master, APM, etc.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
