About the team/role
We are seeking a seasoned Staff Data Scientist to drive user acquisition, activation, and retention. You will utilize math, grit, and the latest GenAI tools to accelerate insights, streamline workflows, and iterate rapidly on growth hypotheses, to move the needle since the Data Science team is a critical driver of Checkr’s growth. By leveraging advanced analytics and machine learning, this role has ample headroom to bend the curve of our user acquisition, activation, and retention, playing to our already strong competitive advantages.
As a Staff Data Scientist on our Growth team, you love leading the debate with rigor and data, through a dense cross-functional team, and being the direct owner of all the analytics, ML models, and experimental roadmap that turbocharge user acquisition, activation, and retention for Checkr
What you’ll do
- PLG Funnel & Experimentation: Define north-star growth metrics, design A/B tests, and run rapid experiments to boost conversion and reduce churn
- Deep analysis and insights automation: Leverage LLMs and GenAI frameworks to accelerate data exploration, prototype predictive models, generate hypotheses, and build the right pipelines to automate it all
- Data-Driven Feature Work: Collaborate with Eng, Product, Marketing, RevOps, and Design to launch ML-powered features (e.g., personalized onboarding flows, predictive lead scoring, recommendation)
- Ship DS in production: This is not a lab job; you will build and deploy models in production
What you bring
- 10+ years of hands-on data science or machine learning or growth analytics experience in a fast-scaling B2B/SaaS
- Fluent in Python, SQL, and modern MLOps and data CI/CD practices
- Knows your math
- Proven track record designing and running high-impact experiments that move key growth metrics
- Familiarity with GenAI tools (e.g., LLMs, automated feature generation, prompt engineering, MCPs) to supercharge productivity
- Proven communication and stakeholder management skills; can lead Exec conversations
- A provocative, scrappy, test-and-learn mindset: you love speed, creative data wrangling, and challenging assumptions

At Checkr, we believe a hybrid work environment strengthens collaboration, drives innovation, and encourages connection. Our hub locations are Denver, CO, San Francisco, CA, and Santiago, Chile. We use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop ranges for our roles and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range. If this role is remote, we have listed the top to the bottom of the possible range, but we will specify the target range for an exact location when you are selected for a recruiting discussion. The base salary range for this role is $196,000 - $230,000 in San Francisco, CA.
