The Battery Product Development team at Apple produces high energy and highly reliable embedded battery systems for all product teams. Tightly integrated with Product Development, Operations, Industrial Design and Reliability Testing groups, we own battery module development from initial system architecture through ramp. The Battery Cell Product Design Group works within the Battery Product Development organization. We responsible for the mechanical engineering design and validation of our battery cells,which are integrated into battery modules and then into products.

Description


The Battery Product Design Engineer – Cell Characterization, is an individual contributor role and will coordinate and execute mechanical characterization of the cells to understand and improve the overall functionality of the cells for our customers. • Develop and complete tests to mechanically characterize the battery cell and its components. Will work with other domain experts, and vendors to get results • Work with the Reliability and Design team to understand failure modes and find opportunities for improvement by mechanical design. • Participates in development of manufacturing processes with multi-functional team and external vendors, acting as product development technical liaison among vendors to improve material performance. • Communicates technical status of projects cross functionally, including throughout the management structure • Completes tasks necessary to deliver product timelines

Minimum Qualifications


BS degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering Mechanical engineering fundamentals Knowledge of various mechanical and material characterization tests

Preferred Qualifications


MS or PhD degree 3+ years of relevant experience Experience working on lithium ion batteries Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with management, team members and external vendors
