Job Description

What will you be doing?

Are you ready to contribute to the development of next-generation mission computing systems supporting some of the UK’s most advanced defence platforms? We're seeking a talented Systems Engineer to play a key role in a high-profile aerospace and defence programme, focused on delivering secure, real-time avionics and embedded computing solutions. This is a hands-on opportunity to work across the full engineering lifecycle, from initial requirements and systems architecture through to integration, test, and deployment — enabling critical capabilities for complex airborne and land-based systems.

Location: Hastings (Hybrid)

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Lead systems engineering activities across the entire V-model lifecycle, including requirements capture, system architecture, design, integration, verification, and validation.
  • Manage system and sub-system requirements using IBM DOORS, ensuring full traceability and compliance with customer expectations and design intent.
  • Engage in requirements decomposition and traceability, collaborating closely with design, software, and hardware teams to align system functions with high-level needs.
  • Define and manage system interfaces, support functional behaviour modelling, and participate in architectural trade-off decisions.
  • Contribute to system integration and verification activities, supporting lab-based testing, platform integration, and final acceptance procedures.
  • Participate in technical design reviews, hazard analyses, and assurance reviews to ensure robust and reliable engineering solutions.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams, acting as a key technical interface between engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Engage in through-life support activities such as issue resolution, system upgrades, and configuration management.

  • Proven capability across the left-hand side of the V-model, including requirement definition, system design, and interface management.
  • Familiarity with real-time embedded systems, particularly within avionics and mission computing environments.
