POSITION OVERVIEW
Alarm.com, a highly innovative, diversified and entrepreneurial SaaS IoT company, is seeking a Corporate Controller to join and lead our Accounting Operations team at a critically important stage in our maturation.
Alarm.com has customers in over 70 countries, going to market primarily B2B2C with solutions that span residential and commercial security, cloud-based video, access control, virtual power plants, gunshot detection, personal safety, and more. We operate numerous independent subsidiary companies and have employees and operations in a handful of international locations.
Alarm.com is seeking an experienced, initiative-taking Corporate Controller to lead our Accounting Operations. This is a leadership role overseeing a skilled accounting team responsible for General Ledger, Accounts Payable, and Revenue functions across our diverse portfolio of companies and initiatives. The Corporate Controller will report directly to the SVP of Finance and work collaboratively with cross-functional executives and finance leaders, including the CFO. This role is based at our global headquarters in Tysons Corner, VA, and requires a hands-on leader who leads by example, embracing a strong in-office presence at least four days per week.
How You Will Make an Impact
As Corporate Controller, your primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Lead Monthly Close: Own the monthly close process across operating companies, ensuring timely, accurate financial statements and consolidated reporting (monthly close by Day 18; year-end close by Day 45) with an eye toward accelerating these timelines through continuous process enhancement.
- Accounting Systems & Process Improvement: Partner with Finance Transformation and Procurement teams to evaluate, enhance, and automate accounting systems and processes, driving operational efficiency and scalability.
- Internal Controls: Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial records.
- Close Process Management: Maintain and refine detailed closing checklists for monthly, quarterly, and annual closes, ensuring clarity in task ownership, deadlines, and review controls.
- Technical Accounting Leadership: Collaborate with Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting teams to ensure GAAP-compliant financial records and reporting of complex accounting matters.
- Intercompany & International Reconciliations: Oversee intercompany balance reconciliations and the upload/reconciliation of financials from international entities to ensure completeness and consolidation accuracy.
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team to strengthen technical skills and business acumen, fostering a culture of urgency, excellence, and truth-seeking.
- Cross-Functional Partnerships: Build and nurture trusted partnerships with business leaders, demonstrating the accounting function’s strategic value and alignment with broader company goals.

Ideal Profile
- Experience: 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within technology-focused corporate environments and/or public accounting, including exposure to early-stage and public companies.
- Certification: Active CPA required.
- ERP Expertise: Extensive experience with multiple ERP systems and participation in ERP implementation projects.
- Process Automation: Proven track record implementing ERP-adjacent systems (e.g., AP automation) to streamline workflows and increase efficiency.
- Scalability: Demonstrated ability to build accounting functions capable of supporting scale and complexity.
- Technical Skills: Strong command of GAAP, technical accounting, and financial reporting standards.
- Cross-Functional Knowledge: Requires expert knowledge of the incumbent’s focus area within accounting and finance, as well as a broad understanding of other functional areas and how they interact. If responsible for a division-level function, must understand other division functions and the corporate function aligned to it.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and implement strategies that drive organizational growth and support long-term success. Advanced strategic thinking skills to anticipate industry trends, innovate, and guide the organization’s financial strategy.
- Leadership Style: Action-oriented self-starter with a hands-on approach who can lead strategy and execution.
